EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (CN) - A federal judge signed off on a $24 million settlement alleging widespread racial bias at Walgreens, the nation's largest drugstore chain. U.S. District Judge G. Patrick Murphy gave final consent to a deal that will split $20 million between 10,000 past and present black Walgreens workers. Attorneys will split an additional $4.5 million.
Walgreens will retain outside consultants to review and make accommodations in its employment practices, including promotion and store assignment standards. Walgreens did not admit wrongdoing.
The U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission sued Walgreens last year, accusing the drug giant of racial bias in hiring and assignment decisions. The case was consolidated with a class action filed in 2005 on behalf of 14 black Walgreens workers. Walgreen's has 230,000 workers in more than 6,000 stores in 49 states and Puerto Rico.
Not that anybody cares, but I am done here. I am really beginning to think there area number here that truly are racists. IF NOT, then I sincerely urge you to think about what you are saying in these posts.
Like I told BD in a different thread, sometimes things are better left unsaid. So you get upset because someone else makes a post that digs you in the side, do you have to respond with nastiness, or can you be a man and let it go?
This is nothing more than a shake down for money by the big Federal Government. It's very common to see these out of court agreements to be decided on to frankly pay off the man to go away. Companies are at a disadvantage when Federal Government chooses to go after you. Whether or not you did anything wrong, it's best to just pay them rather than spend more money to prove your not guilty.

I would love to see the facts of this case to know what the situation is for sure, but this has the looks of a Denny's style shakedown. Companies want to settle because the race card bestows huge negative publicity.
