Someone who was once prescribed an antidepressant? won't the fear of this prevent some from treatment? All felons, regardless of the crime, even if it had nothing to do with violence, or a firearm? DUI convictions? speeding? women? under 18? under 21? Should anyone be allowed to regain gun ownership even if a problem in his/her past?
None of that matters...felonies and such...if the BAD guy wants a gun he will get one...felon or not..if a person has committed a non-violent felony, non gun ownership should not appply...the mental part of this thread I don't really know...but surely you should be able to get your gun rights back after a non-violent felony conviction...JMO. If you go to the NRA website you can look up each states gun laws, and man do they differ...there's alot of states that will allow non-violent felon to have guns, and there are some states that will restore your gun rights automaticially after 5 years...and some are ten years...
To sum it up for Me:
Non-Violent felony = You should be able to own a gun
Violent Felony or Felony with a gun = My answer would be NO, or it should be up to the sentencing judge after so many years.
Just check your state laws they do differ on this subject greatly...All gun laws for every state can be checked at the NRA's website.

not saying who says what.....asking who SHOULD BE and who SHOULDNT be able to? Not what the current laws are etc....
At what point do you stop taking what the gov't tells you to? or at what point do you say hey, that's not fair/right? or do you just follow/listen? sounds like sheep....
It does not matter that some states say that felons can own guns: The feds say that felons are not allowed to own guns.
Maybe if they commit a federal offense, but for state laws, the state defines what a felony is and they can also say when a "felon" by their standard can regain gun ownership rights.
"The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
It doesn't say "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed unless they suffer from depression."
It doesn't say "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed unless they have committed a crime."
It says "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." Period.
I do not believe in prohibiting felons from owning guns. I thought the idea of our criminal justice system was to rehabilitate; not punish for life. If we're going to strip people of their constitutional rights when they've committed a crime, we might as well strip the of their citizenship upon conviction. Are there some felons who cannot be trusted with guns? Of course. But those people should be in jail. Not on the street.
