You gotta be kidding me. First quoting the NYTimes (it's a rag with no credibility) just pisses me off.
But I digress. In this country, we used to have the equivalent of a 'bell curve' with left and right radicals on the opposite ends, and the 'unwashed masses' in the middle. Now, it looks like the country is divided into a 7-10 split with socialists on the left and conservatives on the right. This is an incredibly dangerous situation and I see no end in sight. The 'liberal uniter' you seem to be pointing to is actually a divider. He calls an anti-American minister the equivalent of his uncle (like FDR calling Josef Stalin "Uncle Joe"), he proposes thousands of dollars in additional taxes on each household in the republic ostensibly for 'rich people' but which includes everybody at the 32k salary level and above. He proposes discarding trillions of U.S. tax dollars to fight African poverty which, while a noble cause, is completely out of order given the need for tax relief here at home. He proposes emboldening the muslim hordes by ignominious cut-n-run retreat from a battle we've won. The guy's polished, he's articulate, and he's educated. Basically, in light of his spending policies, he's what we on Wall Street call "A Bum in a Suit". He poses too much risk to be a viable candidate, and he WILL go down in flames once his policies become commonly reported in major media. The Times is polishing a turd, IMO.

In Texas, we'd say he's "all hat, no cattle." He's an economic disaster waiting to happen. Anyone who can't see that is... well .... let's just say, not paying attention.
I think about the only way BHO can be a "liberal unifier" is if he steps aside and gives one of his dazzling speeches to his liberalsupporters to back Hillary. I really don't think Hillary will step aside without a good mud wrestling match at Denver. If she wins that mud wrestling match, I don't really see any unification.
You do have a point there. BHO is probably the only one of the two who canunify the liberals.

Can a liberal be a unifier? About as much as a neo-conservative can be a unifier. Sorry, it ain't happening. That's the political climate of America. As long as each side has an agenda, it isn't going to happen. Democratic commentator Mort Kondracke, in an article I posted the other day, admitted as much about Obama: "There isn't a single part of Obama's agenda that Republicans will identify with." Obama can't even get it right on race. And he's expected to rally the nation behind radical socialist changes like government-controlled healthcare, major tax increases while substantially increasing foreign aid, and a "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need" ideology that would put Robin Hood to shame? Pipe dream!
