I still think we will be alright. The Fed has acted agressively to get out in front any recession fears. We don't see massive lay offs. We're not in excess inventory at manufactures like we were in 2001. Except for the housing market in areas. Also, the builders have adjusted their pricing back in line with the market. We slowed down no doubt, but I do believe we will pick back up in June and July like they are predicting.

There are states in the Northern part of the US that is talking about only accepting the Euro Dollar, because the value of the dollar has gotten so bad that it isn't worth anything.
I heard the price of gasoline is going up $.25 this week.
It is $3.39 at one local station here and $3.33 at another.
Sheetz is still $3.29 - BUT it is going up and the people are filling everything in site.
You cannot have a man, trying to feed a family on $10 an hour, working 20 miles from home, driving a pick up truck, spending $18a day on gasoline - tell me that he can make a go of it!
With 4 quarts of oil - Pennzoil at Wal Mart going for $9.99 and new tires going for over $200 each, how can a man make a living?
Your reply might be for a man to get a better job. But when $10 an hour is about all most employers are willing to pay - what is a man to do?
All the kids have left to go elsewhere to get a better job and all the old people are just waiting to die. There are 3 people collecting a check and one person working. How long can it go on.
The banks are not going to fail - like it did in the great depression. But with bread at $2.69 a loaf at the grocery store. The people will sooner or later just run out of food and die.
I say the govt. should cut off all foreign aid and put the money back into our country before it is too late!

You have valid points except this one. Why are you asking for a hand out? When you spend it tomorrow what's next? What you should be requesting our governemnt to do is to give up this silly noation of using food for fuel. Ever since they went on this stupid ethanol kick it's driven food prices through the roof. Are you really fed up with fuel prices? Have you writen your government to end the blocking of oil drilling. You can't have lower fuel prices if you don't match supply with demand. The bad news is the price per gallon hasn't yet caught up with the barrel price. Gas will continue to rise for a few more months.

Yep, let's cut foreign aid so our enemies can conquer our weak alliesand strengthen themselves while we wallow in a recession and fight in the Middle East.
I think the economy is probably going to receed a little more, but I don't think that stabilization and growth are all that far off. The whole country is rethinking its financial priorities right now. It's about time.

You said a mouthfull. Our debt exceeds our earnings. We're a gotta-have-it, gotta-have-it-now society. If this economic downturn we're currently enduring forces us to reevaluate our spending, good.

I wonder if this will pass. We might see steel pennies again. Maybe Weimar style inflation afterwards. I don't like pennies, but that's pretty bad when you have to resort to steel.
