Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default The Ying and Yang in American Society

The Ying: A state legislator in Vermont wants to introduce legislation to lower the legal limit for drunk driving to .02. That would pretty much mean that anybody who has had a single drink would be over the limit. At least then, the police would have a legitimate basis for doing field sobriety tests every time they catch a whiff of booze on someone's breath.

The Yang: A high court in California ruled that the generic desire for a "drug free' workplace does not give some employers the right to drug test some job applicants. The case was based on a woman who refused to do a drug/alcohol test as part of the application for a position as a LIBRARIAN. Imagine a world where someone won't lose their job over a trace of booze or pot from the night before.

Another intrusion of gubment to the point where it restricts personal freedoms! .02 means you better watch how much you drink the night before!

Doug,

Something like that has already happened. A few years ago the University of Southern Mississippi implemented a policy prohibiting employees from showing up for work with ANY detectable level of alcohol in their system. That means that you could be fired for having a couple glasses of wine at midnight on sunday, then showing up for work early on monday with just taces of it left in your system. I know there was a lot of opposition to it, but dont know if it was left in place.

Washington DC went on a zero tolerance rule for awhile. It meant no odor of alcohol. A guy who has one beer at 6 with coworkers and left the bar at 9 got pulled over for something. The cop smelled the beer on his breath, administered a BOH test and he came up 0.00. He was still arrested and spent the night in jailed. He still had to go to court. Sorry, don't know the out come.

Ervine, Texas, cops there where staking out the hotel bars. They were keeping track of business guest staying at the hotel and drinking. An Aircraft Mechanic who had to be flown in to repair a down bird was spending the night and flying home the next morning. He was watching the game on the big screen. When he went to order his 5th beer, the cops stepped in and he was under arrest. He spent the night in jail. When he got home he was out of a job.

It's already the law for anyone operating on a commercial drivers license, but I thinks it's BS for anyone not involved in a safety sensitive field.

People shouldn't be drink driving anyway. I would never do it, too much at risk. Even though there are 5 pubs in my village and public transportation I still would rather drive with zero alcohol in my system.

Its just stupid.

Remington girl, what do you think 0.00 is? That's zero alcohol in your system. The man still spent the night in jail.

The Hotel bar is total BS. Once you check into a hotel your on your own private property. That's how they classify it in Scotland as well. If your a hotel guess, beer is avaqilable 24 hours X 7 days a week in Scotland.
