We've discussed numerous issues concerning voting, drinking, and military service over the years. I was reading that Obama has dismissed requests from some young vets tosomehow lower the drinking age to 18 for them if he were elected. Then an idea came to me. How about raising the voting age to 21, except for military servicemen and women? I was thinking that the youth are doing a good enough job already destroy themselves with booze. Why give them the same opportunity to be reckless with a vote? On the other hand, this proposition wouldallow those men and women who take the responsibility of the uniform seriously to have some voice in choosing our elected officials developing the policies they enforce.
I think we all need to decide on an age of personal accountability and stick with that. One age for voting, drinking, enlisting, etc.
Why simplify things from three done to one? That's not the American way.
Personally, I would do away with the drinking age all together. However, I like the idea Aught. Let's move the voting age up to 21 if they refuse to adjust the drinking age for the folks in the military. When you can pick up a gun and shootsomeone or be shot at by someoneat 17, I think you can drink.

I think there is a badproblem with alcohol abuse in the military. However, I feel that anyone on active duty in the armed forces should be allowed to consume alcohol at age 18 on military bases. I just hope they don't drive afterwards.
I think our culture is in many ways supporting and even encouraging kids to grow up more slowly. Kids are living with their parents until they're 28, not bothering to get married or have children, and generally acting as though youth were eternal, at least until they start aging prematurely.
