Sounds like normal spring weather( even with minor deviations of early/ late seasons etc)
( just as warming /cooling- global climate change is normal- just less frequent)

I heard about that on the news today, Im thankful that we do not get such adverse weather here. Are they common in all of the South/Midwest? I'd hate to live somewhere that gets them frequently because my house would be distroyed and all my treasured belongings gone forever.

Tornados happen every yr . Some places more then others. Theres places noted for them - like tornado alley etc.But they can deviate from there "normal patterns" areas, seasonsetc.
Houses etc can be replaced- the very lucky ones walk away with there lifes- after a big one rips threw theretowns or naborhoods leveling it.
My son & his family live in Ky now- a few have hit nearby since they lived there- previous to that some big ones went threw the area causing a bit of damage& lose of life.
We had our lil house in the south(secret location

)get hit by a big gust of wind - it was not a tornado offically - it was not seen or did it have circlular traveling winds it seems or was it wide spead or large. But it still riped down a few trees nearby& a moble home got smashed flat- half our roof got peeled back( the inside damaged &f looded with theheavy downpours of rainwater, brand new antenii got riped off the roof/brokeand tree in the yardbroke in half etc.The state? would have helped with a few dollars for damages etci guess- if the winds had been circlular- but they wernt so they didnt

- if it went in a circle or not- did not change one bit what damages where done of course.
A"large" down draft? hit colorado a few yrs back- no one close by- it leveled about 10,000+ acres of trees tho if i remember right. One in wy not as big & others...But if its not a circle/wind its not a tornado.
And as the other poster pointed out- theres more country side then city these various winds hit.
My son i mentioned lives in this area to- noted for past quakes.

Midwest record-setters
The infamous series of three New Madrid quakes in 1811-1812 occurred a few weeks apart, from Dec. 16 to Feb. 7. They measured 8.1, 8.0 and 7.8 and represent three of the four strongest earthquakes ever recorded in the lower 48.
"Strong earthquakes in the New Madrid seismic zone are certain to occur in the future," states a USGS fact sheet. "There is a 9-in-10 chance of a magnitude 6 to 7 temblor occurring in the New Madrid Seismic Zone within the next 50 years."
Differences in geology east of the Rockies account for the widespread effects, geologists say.
Though similar in strength, an earthquake East of the rockies is felt across a wider area. SOURCE: USGS
