I enjoyed the news clips of Prince Harry in Afghanistan. Now that the cat is out of the bag, they have pulled him back in to England. I could not help but notice that he had a Kukri strapped into his web gear on his back. I admire his willingness to step into that picture and serve.

I'll give him credit that he is or was in Afghanistan. I am not a big fan of the english monarchy but will give them credit for the men (and a few of the women) serving in the military and also serving in combat zones if a war is occurring. I wish a few more of our politicians had served in the military. Then they might have a better understanding of exactly what this country does owe our vets.
p.s. I've heard great things about those kukri knives.

Sorry, no photo. Saw it on CNN last night. But you may be able to stream it from their website. As far as danger goes, it is out there. He did appear to be with a combat unit and it did not look like he was hiding in the CP.
Knives aren't so fashionable on the front line anymore, but if someone is crawling into your position and you don't want your muzzle flash to give you away, well, it is a last resort. Naturally, we hope that things never get that bad. But the kukri, and he was sporting a full sized one, takes a big bite. Different from the bowie and dirk designs favored in the west.

They still have all their power, they just choose not to use it.
