Obama v. McCain on Al Qaeda, does Obama scare you the way he scares me?
Obama was asked what condition he would put the military back into Iraq, since he wants to pull out. He said, "If Al Qaeda sets up in Iraq, he would go in with the military." McCain responded that Al Qaeda is already there, i.e. by Obama's own standards, we should continue to have a military presence in Iraq.
Then Obama seemed to change the subject, saying that Al Qaeda is only there because of Bush, that they weren't in Iraq before Bush directed our military to go in.
So what is Obama's position? Since Al Qaeda IS there, is he now saying we should remain? No, he simply played ha ha like a kid and changed the topic. This scares me, because regardless of anyone's belief on the justification for going in, we need a president with answers to what is going on over there. He seems to have put a condition out there for having our military in Iraq, and when he learned that condition was met, ignored his own condition since he didn't change course on pulling out our troops.
Did any of you come away from this exchange thinking this way as well? His gotcha rhetoric was off point, and may impress his gullible supporters, but is NO solution to the real issue of dealing with Iraq. It seems to me that since he wants to pull out our troops, he needs to explain why he believes it is better for Iraq and America given expectations of what will happen when we pack up and leave.

When it comes to foreign policy, Obama is a wet noodle. He wants to pull out of Iraq, open diplomatic relations with some of the world's greatest terrorists, and generally appeal to liberal sentiments worldwide with his policies. I really don't think he has a cluewhat we need to do in Iraq or elsewhere.
Remember, his mantra is "change". What better way to change the country's direction thanbailing out and focusing on feel-good domestic issues like healthcare, etc.

I can't understand how ANYONE can vote for either of the two Democrat candidates. Obama says we shouldn't be in Iraq because Al Qaeda is only there because of Bush's invasion. Well.... Where would he prefer them to be? I guess since he doesn't want to "fight them over there", perhaps he'd rather they were in jets flying toward our cities?

Well, they do get a whole raft of votes. And the Democratic candidate will get mine. Maybe learned people can just differ on the issues. Sometimes being on this board makes me think folks cannot accept that possibility.

He just flat out lied on that statement. It has been proven over and over again and backed up by three congressional investigations that AL Qaeda was there in Iraq.
Anyone following Obama isn't listening to what he has to say nor what his positions are. They do remind me of Bill Clinton just saying whatever you want him to say.

Just like they proved that Saddam had WMD's right?
Look, I can't say for certain that Al Qaeda was in Iraq before we went in. But I know that they're there now.

The topic was military in Iraq and he said if Al Qaeda is there. Since Al Qaeda is there, the military should be even under his own standard.
It's like if you are thinking of hiring a pool manager, and ask under what condition he wouldpatch a leak. He replies that if there is a leak, he would patch it. You point out there is a leak, and he says, "Yeah, but that's because this other guy made the leak." The problem is there, and this guyisn't going to fix it even though he said he would.
That should be a huge problem for not only republicans, but democrats. We need a president who can solve problems, not double talk, and point fingers and violate his own standards!

Ask the Kurds and the Shiite's if Sadam had WMD's and see what they have to say. After they tell you yes, please produce the report from Hans Blix certifying that they were distroyed.
