That's kind of my point. The laws get tougher, and the situation gets worse. It's so bad we're literally out of jail cells. Meanwhile, the problems of street crime, drug addiction, and poverty have not improved much in most places. I don't claim to have the answers, but someone is going to have to rethink what we're doing with the criminal justice system in this country.
funny how so many of us bemoan the existence of nanny government, yet never even consider nor complain about one of its hugest and most expensive manifestations: the criminalization of soft drugs. for a variety of reasons, the decriminalization of marijuana use is a "third rail" in this country that serious candidates can't even discuss.
given the costs involved in arresting, prosecuting and incarcerating these folks, i don't understand why we don't give serious consideration to alternate approaches to dealing with drug use. certainly the costs associated with drugaddiction are both high, and tragic...just like alcohol. we deal with the latter without, by and large, resort to the criminal justice system. why not the former?
I don't know about that, prison seems pretty f-ed up from what I have seen and heard. Not a place you want to be.
It's not a place you or I would want to be, but then again we aren't felons, either. Or at least I'm not.[8D]
Prison gangs control prisons. And a lot of the thugs in there and being put in there are already part of a gang. When they get in , they join up with members of their gang, and it's life as usual for them.

I've already prosecuted several illegals. Deporting someone doesn't do a bit of good. They all ask to be deported, because if that's what they get, they will beat the bus back. We'd have to have a secure border first for that to work.
