Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default ASDA Faces Threats To Dog Ownership

The American Sporting Dog Alliance needs YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sporting dog owners and professionals are facing unprecedented threats in the coming year, and the only way to preserve our heritage is to unify into a single voice that speaks loudly and clearly in defense of our rights.

The American Sporting Dog Alliance (ASDA) was formed to meet these threats by animal rights groups head-on, both politically and in the courts. We will win this fight, but we need your help to do it.

We proved this week that we can defeat well-organized and very well financed efforts by animal rights groups. In Oklahoma, ASDA supported local groups and dog owners in a successful effort to turn back tough legislation that would have devastated many excellent and conscientious hobby breeders in that state. This legislation was killed in the Agriculture Committee of the state House. ASDA played a supportive role by direct contacts with legislators and senators, informing dog and kennel owners of developments, helping people to network, sending letters to several newspapers in the state, and providing consulting work by veterinarians and attorneys who work with us.

ASDA asks all people who are involved with sporting dogs to visit our website and learn about how we are working to combat the threats of animal rights and anti-hunting extremism. The group"s website can be viewed at http://www.americansportingdogalliance.org . Please join us and volunteer to help in any way you can. Your membership is vitally needed, because numbers count in politics, but we also need your dedication and talents.

The threats to sporting dog owners are very real, and 2008 is the year the animal rights groups have launched formidable challenges at the state and local level. Legislation is on a fast track in at least 20 states, and the animal rights groups are very well funded and organized. The legislation is aimed at hobby breeders, professional trainers and handlers, boarding kennel owners, and commercial kennels. So-called "lemon laws" are aimed at anyone who raises a litter of puppies.

In Virginia, dog owners" organizations had a close call on Feb. 12, when their courageous and tireless efforts were not enough to stem the impact of millions of dollars thrown into the fight by the Humane Society of the United States. HSUS hired four full-time professional lobbyists, assembled an army of semi-professional lobbyists, and launched the vast resources of its Washington headquarters. Virginia dog owners were overwhelmed, and the animal rights groups won the first round by a 91-6 margin in the state House. The good news is that the Senate Agriculture Committee put a temporary hold on this legislation to study issues raised by Donnita Ackley of the Virginia Hunting Dog Owners Association. ASDA supported VHDOA"s efforts by contacting each senator on the Agriculture Committee with a detailed analysis of the bill. We are hopeful that these efforts will bear fruit when the committee reconvenes next week.

Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, California and Ohio will be under the same gun within days or weeks, and many other states will follow in the coming months. Most of the proposed legislation is aimed squarely at hobby kennels and breeders, as well as professional trainers and handlers. Very few conscientious kennel owners will be able to survive the devastating regulations, fines, license revocations and even jail terms the bills provide. The animal rights agenda is to create extreme risks and liabilities for kennel owners and scare them out of business.

How can this happen?

We consistently underestimate our own potential strength. We see ourselves as a weak minority, mostly because the sporting dog world is fragmented into small groups representing different breeds or activities. This literally is a case of not being able to see the forest for the trees.

There are millions of Americans who own dogs of the sporting breeds, and the majority of them use their dogs for hunting or competition. The total number of people who own or work with pointing dogs, beagles, retrievers, hounds, hunting terriers and flushing dogs greatly exceeds the number of people who support animal rights and anti-hunting legislation.

In the 1970"s, the term "silent majority" was coined in American political debate. That"s us. We are in the clear majority, but we have failed to stand up for our beliefs and rights. We have allowed ourselves to be pushed to the wall by a very vocal minority of animal rights and anti-hunting extremists who do not speak for most Americans.

To combat these extremists, we must unify, stand up and be counted.
In many ways, sporting dog owners and professionals have been their own worst enemy. Some of us feel that our cause is hopeless. Many of us think we represent a dying tradition, even though we still number in the millions. Others try to bury their heads in the sand and hope that new laws and policies will somehow pass them by. Still others want to believe that there is an inherent sense of fairness and decency in the political process that will make things right, even as our rights are continually compromised.

The simple truth is that our heritage will perish if we do not defend it aggressively. It"s up to us. Nobody is going to do it for us. We must banish despair and defeatism from our thinking, realize our real power and flex our muscles, and we must do it now. Tomorrow will be too late.

We need your membership and support. Everyone who joins gives us more political clout and more funds to fight back against the extremists. The "anti" groups have been organizing and raising money for years, and now have a major advantage in terms of organization and finances. Even though we are in the majority, we have a lot of catching up to do. But we can catch up. We can stop the "antis" in their tracks. We really don"t have a choice in the modern political climate. We either fight back and win, or the traditions we love will be destroyed.

ASDA is a "no-compromise" organization that plans to win this fight by a knockout.

If we lose, we have no one to blame but ourselves. We have the numbers. We have the votes. We have the power to win.

There are only two questions. Do we have the will to win? Do we have the guts?

Thank you.

Please take a look at the websites of the animal rights groups and see why they think it is wrong to own dogs, breed dogs and hunt. Their views are pretty far-fetched, but unfortunately they have a lot of money and seem to be snookering a lot of elected officials. Do a search for The Humane Society of The United States and People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals. I would suggest sitting down before you read them

Look at that truck, thats not a normal American Vehicle. I assume that pic was in another country. Those dogs could easily be headed to a slaughter house.

I was just about to say the same thing. That is what we call a BOGNO truck. Not sure if that is a brand name, or what, but, they are the main means of small time shipping and transport in local areas around Korea. Their culture finds dog to be a bit of a delicacy, preferring medium sized yellowish colored dogs. At least that is what I was told during my one year over there..
