(CNN)[/b] -- A pair of F-15 fighter jets collided during a training exercise over the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday, according to Air Force officials.

Air Force search and rescue and U.S. Coast Guard crews were searching the Gulf for the pilots Wednesday afternoon. The planes were part of the 33rd Fighter Wing, a combat-flying unit based at Eglin Air Force Base.

To it'scredit, the design is a very good one, and our pilots are very good. We'll see if the F-22 will go down in the history books with as much fame.
