In this vast no-man's land, Al Qaeda's North African franchise, known as Al Qaeda in the Lands of Islamic Maghreb, is training new operatives.
Morocco is a pretty good ally of the U.S. and is a pretty good example of a moderate muslim state. I think that some recent reports of human rights abuses were based on them cracking down really hard on terrorists. AQ will not have a good time there, but who knows in the other places.

I had an oxof an English teacher in 8th grade. She used to talk of her youth spent teaching in Algeria of all places (must've been 200 lbs lighter at the time). Even then, before the first WTC bombing and the rise of the Taliban and al Qaeda, Islamic extremists were battling various governments in the region.

That whole area is a perfect place to off load, load supplies and men by boat. Cells could train and be picked up under cover of darkness and off they go through the straits to Lebanon, thru Syria into Iraq.

The terroristsmust be travellingas nomads and in operating in small groups using couriers to communicate, there is river access also to the sea, anything larger would be spotted and gunships could take em out.

This is also the reason European countries are starting to crack down on illegal aliens from Morocco. They are afraid the terrorist nuts are going to start showing up as nomads to do bad things in their countries.
