today i went to the coffee shop for the first time in a month. all i heard from the group of older people i was listening to was how the president had every thing screwed up from the war to gas prices. i see the same attitude on this site and other sites. i just don't understand how the American public can sit back and blame the president for all the trouble this country is in when as far as in concerned it is congress that has screwed up this country. the president is there at most 8 years. a person elected to congress can make a career out of it if they keep getting elected. IMO every one in congress should have term limits too. i feel that most of the people that serve on congress don't give a crap about anything but themselves and getting elected for another term. don't get me wrong i feel the president has blame here to but when it comes right down to it he doesn't have the power that most people think he does when it comes to changing the way the government is run.

You are very right in your assumptions. Ignorant people will point to the president as the target of their frustration and give congress the pass. THey are the LEGISLATIVE branch and as such, can call the president on mistakes in policy, executive decisions, etc. The fact that this democrat-controllled congress HAS A LOWER APPROVAL RATING THAN THE PRESIDENT THEY DESPISE SO MUCH, is really quite indicative of the democrat's inability to govern effectively. The fact that the press never points out the fact that the democrat-controlled congress has a lower approval rating than the president tells me we have a 'live and well' propaganda machine busy working overtime to undermine the current administration.
I do not hold the president blameless, but congress has taken no action whatsoever and that constitutes gross malfeasance and a betrayal of their so-called 'mandate' which tipped the balance of power from conservative republicans to socialist democrats....
Yes, well said. I would also add it seems to be the by-product of our sorry education system in America. Folks just are taught these days about the roll of the three branches of our Government or the roll of the private sector and how our enconomy really runs. Then they by into the politicians like Clinton blaming big oil, big pharma and every other greedy corporation out there.

Wow, way back when, I thought I learnt that in the Senate it takes 2/3rds to pass anything, not really looking to get into invoking cloture, or quorum here. And in the House it's a majority wins, with the VP decides ties, and the President has veto power over "anything" that is passed, in Congress. Then it would take 2/3rds to override any veto. Last I looked "neither" party enjoys a "mandate". To include the President. When was the last time that either party owned mandate or even control over the Executive "and" Legislative Branches? Not for nothing, this is a stalmate between "both" parties and it only hurts the American people as a whole. (I)

actually, in many regards, I think stalemate is EXACTLY what we need right now..... with the radical left (and radical right for that matter) trying to pull this country in their direction I think in many areas the ability for the govt to do absolutely nothing prevents them from PHUQING UP absolutely everything...
imho, this is a good thing, particularly in this day and age...

That would be the Senate not the house. The VP is president of the Senate. It also use to be 2/3rds but was moved to 60 votes under Senate rules. They also no longer do filabusters anymore for real. It's only symbolic.

So I guess that business about the president being the scapegoat is a bunch of malarkey. THe fact is,
with good, solid and workable legislation, public pressure assists in gettiing a presidential signature on WORTHWHILE legislation. There's been nothing worthwhile so I guess it's NOT the president's fault the congress can get nothing done, eh ? Let's not forget, as in the observation regarding the state of our education system nowadays, that the libs run the education process and as such, are in a position to actively indoctrinate our children into the socialist mindset. This is evident if you listen to any 'fresh' college graduate these days...and I don't blame them either. They are just playing parrot because the only free exchange of ideas going on in our universities nowadays is the free exchange where an idea is given to the students and they are required to repeat it back as if it's their own. Free thinkers need not apply (or graduate)....

And by symbolic you mean?? You maybe don't have to actually fillabuster, or just say so and the business can't move until maybe a vote for colture or what? Did I say VP is Prez of the House??? Sorry Meant to type Senate.....and, and, and, how many votes are needed 60 is that for a full Senate or what? By the way, in the 110th Congress there were at least 72 motions to end or head off fillabusters. Oh it's used. You just don't have to read a phone book anymore. Symbolic, is that like a statue or something?

That is exactly what I mean. The fillabusters are purely symbolic. Neither side must work for their beliefs. There are no 24 hour sessions. They wasted our money last year by bringing in the damm cots. That's a bunch of crap. I say bring back full fillabusters and make them work for their pay check.
