Backed by U.S. and European allies, Kosovo's ethnic Albanian leadership votes to declare the war-torn Serbian province an independent state. "Kosovo will never be ruled by Belgrade again," Prime Minister Hashim Thaci said. Serbian President Boris Tadic immediately rejects the unilateral proclamation.

Well,the Cold War was already working its way back up to a boil. I think we'll see war in the Balkans again pretty soon. It's all but certain thatRussia will aid the Serbs militarily and politically ifthat happens. Whether we keepaiding the Kosovars is a good question. They're really looking up to us right now for supporting their independence, though, so if we turn our backs now they'll hate us eternally.

We need all the leverage we can get against Moscow. I say we do what we have to do to support Kosovo and oppose Serbia in this matter.

I thought it was a lovey dovey over there. Clinton sent our military over there without backing from the UN or a Congressional vote because vital US security was at stake. He could do no wrong. So I predict it will remain peaceful.
