Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Africa, Bush makes case for US aid

"My trip here is a way to remind future presidents and future Congresses that it is in the national interest and in the moral interests of the United States of America to help people," Bush said.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080217/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush_africa

"I reject some of the old-style type of grants, which basically said, let's feel better, we'll just give some money out," he said. "We believe that rather than making ourselves feel better, that our money ought to make the people of a particular country feel better about their government."

He has called the program an alternative giving because of either "guilt" over colonialism or "gluttony" for Africa's many resources. Maintaining the program as U.S. policy after he leaves office next January is a a priority.

Bush's welcome in Tanzania was not all positive. In the country that was the site of one of the deadly truck bombings against U.S. embassies in 1998, a Muslim group demonstrated Friday against his visit in Dar es Salaam's streets.

All Hail GW, The Great Decider !

The US needs to put the U.S. first on its list of priorities. Don't attack other countries, don't give help if unwanted, only help those countries that request it, ie genecide cases etc....I'm willing to bet americans would much prefer to support going into countries where genecide is happening, and more willing to enlist.

I agree with you 75%. The attacking other countries, well, that's foreign policy and I've yet to take exception with my government's actions in invading anybody yet. I do not see our troops as agressors, and I see the invasions we've undertaken as executed for the benefit of this country. To 'stop genecide' (sic), I don't see that as being in the national interest, and I certainly don't want to sacrifice American lives in securing somebody else; that's not what they're here for, and they're not trained to be police. They are trained to destroy anything, on command, immediately and they're very good at their jobs.

I presume you're simultaneously condemning the Iraq invasion and waving the flag for that liberal bellwether Darfur for which we have no national interest, which does not want us there, and which nobody HERE wants to send family members to die in battle for nothing. Sudan is a non-muslim Arab country fighting mulim separatist rebels in Darfur. Various governments have been attempting to negotiate with the sudanese government and the rebels on behalf of the civilian population of darfur to no effect. You propose we stop invading and stop genocide. Do you understand that we'd need to UNILATERALLY invade Sudan, despite UN, French and Chinese involvement politically ? We could be fighting at any given time, the government of Sudan, government forces from neighboring Chad, and/or any of 4 or 5 rebel groups FROM DARFUR to 'stop the genocide'. You want us to stop invading; don't see how that's a possiblity with darfur, especially after the best efforts of the U.N., China, France, the U.S. and the AFrican Union. Is it that some invasions are better than others ? And while we're at it, how much 'collateral damage' is ok for you 'save darfur' types, or is the elimination of the al-Bashir's poliitcal enemies to be done with 'surgical precision' ? To help darfur, whom would we side with ? Should we depose of al-Bashir's administration, a non-muslim Arab government, or should we exterminate the Darfur rebels which are Nubian muslims ? Do we have to rebuild and restore the country too ? Sound familiar ? YOU wanna go to help those sorry skunks ? Didn't think so...

Your anti-Bush attitude comes across loud and clear. We are at war and basically, unless the cut-n-run democrats figure out a way to fight a war for free, that's basically where most of the money is going. Lots of folks decry the war effort on any number of grounds (I do not), but even a simpleton understands that equipment, fuel, materiel and aircraft, all these cost huge amounts of money. Do you think Roosevelt, the socialist 'hero' of the older generation, would have spent any less conducting WWII in current-value U.S. dollars ? If you wanna see a spending record, vote democrat in the next election; you're looking at half a trillion dollars to be spent on 'universal' (read that socialized) health care, child credits, rebate checks and all sorts of 'buy the vote' foolishness. And all that after we 'cut-n-run' from our responsibility in the Middle East....the bill for this war will be peanuts compared to the cost of socialism in this country. Not to mention the fact that we will have shown ourselves to be spineless as a nation, and will embolden the muslim hordes by our withdrawal. Yes, the terrorists love democrats.....

Africa is a tragedy of epic proportions. Unless we invade the entire continent and take it over (a logistical, political, military, financial and physical impossibility), we cannot help them. They need to be able to
help themselves and they need to stamp out the level of corruption present in their respective governments.
There are so many factions with self-serving agendas, vendettas, petty quarrels, and hatreds I don't see
any assistance being effective over there. I was amazed to hear there's actually an A.U. (African Union) but I do not know how effective it is....

Mbeki, dictator for life of South Africa, claims that HIV doesn not cause AIDS. Mugabe, dictator for life of Zimbabwe, will not tolerate discussion of the subject. Thousands of doctors have fled Zimbabwe.

How do you fight such ignorance?

And don't forget the witchdoctors are telling men that to cure aids you need to have sex with a virgin. The result: They are raping babies because there is no mistake that they are virgins. Most of them die. One of them survived and came to the states and needed extensive surgery.

I thought Oprah was taking care of Africa
