An Ohio mayor had a stern order for a company of Marine Corps Reservists: Get out.
The Toledo Blade reports that Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner ordered the Marines out Friday as their buses were arriving for a three-day training mission in the city, where they have periodically trained since 2004.
The 200 Marines, based in Grand Rapids, Mich., had planned to participate in urban patrol exercises in downtown streets and a vacant building, according to the Blade, which reports that past exercises have included mock gun fights, ambushes and the firing of blank ammunition to simulate urban combat.
Finkbeiner said that would be alarming.
"The mayor asked them to leave because they frighten people," Brian Schwartz, the mayor's spokesman, told the newspaper. "He did not want them practicing and drilling in a highly visible area."
Toledo police knew of the plan days in advance, but Finkbeiner apparently didn't, the Blade reports. The Marines turned around and went home to Grand Rapids
I have seen this before in canada, it starts off like this...instead of supporting the military it starts as a slow disintegration...not allowing this, no reason for this...I supposed the poor sceered folks of Toledo would be even more sceered if terrorists moved in or would they offer them tax incentives to build a hide out ?
Is it possible he was afraid the public would see just how professional our soldiers really are and operate and doubt the bs stories writen in the news?

As a veteran, US Army (honorably discharged with the rank of Captain), I am very disgusted with the Mayor of Toledo, Carty Finkbeiner and his recent refusal to let the Marines from Grand Rapids train there. Has he forgotten who protects his freedoms, way of life, and even the form of government that gave him the opportunity to obtain the position he holds???? What a shameful thing it is to see the people of this country disrespecting those who are responsible for their protection and freedoms. FirstBerkley, CA makes a public statement "telling the U.S. Marines that their recruiting station is not welcome in the city,"and now this??? What is this country coming to??? I urge each and every PATRIOTIC citizen in the city of Toledo to think about what Mayor Finkbeiner has done the next time you go to cast your ballot. Consider the freedoms you have and whether the candidate you are voting for supports your freedoms and those who are protecting them, or not. Ask yourself, "Can any goodcome from denying the Marines the opportunity to train???"and "What message are we sending to those who are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to keep us safe and free???" the cities are where the libs live. The poor congregate there for the public assistance in it's many forms.
The libs are educated/indoctrinated there and stay to propagate their lies and hatred and paranoid fears
not based in reality. There will be no cities stepping up to the bar to allow urban warfare simulations by
members of our armed forces. The libs fear and loathe them...it's just not fashionable to say so nowadays.
So, it will be up to each branch of the armed forces themselves to construct urban simulations in which to train....it's their best bet and then they will be prepared to save the undeserving when the time comes.
In the meantime, why doesn't the federal government pull funding from these cities who will not support their own military ? It's certainly within their right to do so....

I don't think most of the people who live in the cities are hostile to the military. But they tend to elect members of the Liberal Elite, for the reasons our friend here points out,who are hostile.

I grew up there, and avoid going there now that I've moved out. I think the city has major problems, Carty is one of them and the people who put him there a second time is another. (when I say second I mean he was term limited out and they, after a break elected him again[&o]).
Having said that, how is it he, and apparently the area where they were going to benot know they were coming?
When there's a terror threat Toledo gets all worked up believing they are a possible target. Makes me laugh every time. Any terrorist with a brain would leave Toledo alone, their an asset to them. They want the marines out just like Carty.
The people there like it just the way it is and that's about as far as I can explain it. The country is no different.
The county I live (Wood)in is the opposite politicallyof Toledo's (Lucas) yet my daughter was just treated very poorly in a court case; she was involved in a driving accident. She struck a semi who tried to back into his private drive, crossing both lanes of traffic, at night, on a main highway, in a black rig. Fortunetly she was paying attention or she'd be dead. She was sited and we took it to court. The judge and prosecutor treated her terribly taking advantage of her total lack of experience in that kind of situation. If they had a case, make it as gentelmen, but they resorted to school house ridicual. It's a longer story, but I expected much more from a party, a faith, a peopleI've alsobeen involved with socially than what I got. She has learned a good lesson for life.
Thelawyer I hired is a friend and has appealed the case, andfor good reasons, it is likely to be over turned. He also informed us we wont have to pay the court because my daughter doesn't make enough money. I was a happy man when I heard that. Paying for my daughter to be insulted was a real thorn in my side. Not paying is just a beautiful thing to me.
Bottom line politics were's only one face, doesn't matter what party. Carty has run in the city of Toledo under 3, his current Democract, as a Republican and Independent.[:@]
