Default moderates and liberals scr*wed the GOP

I am interpreting an article I read that described the current front runner as being in his place due to moderates and independents getting their say in early open primaries. I think this is at least partially true. The other element is that conservative republicans did not coalesce around a single conservative candidate, but split their vote amongst the wider field. Now, there are alot of woulda-shoulda-couldas here, but I think it would have been hard to fault ex-candidate Thompson (eg) on his record.

Thus, we have a maverick (and moderate in some ways) leading the pack in the republican race. I also see part of his momentum as a perception that he could be queen hillary. Well, I will be glued to the TV tuesday night.

Happy superbowl. Time to crank up the chili!
