You think this will help or Hurt Huckabee in the long run

Hurt, voters don't like to hear that these days, especially liberals. Frankly, I'm not thrilled to hear it. "God's standards" are already well represented in secular law.

I think he turned off most of America with that comment. He's pandering to evangelicals, and at the same time shooting himself in the foot in front of everyone else.

Probably not a good thing to say, but, comparing it to sha'ria law? Come on. I don't recall Christian doctrine in the recent memory which advocates killing your children if they embarass you, or mangling children because they stole something, or killing others solely because they refuse to convert to your religion, etc., etc., etc.

By the way.... I suspect he's just talking about right-to-life and traditional marriage, both matters which have been Republican platform issues for some time.

Bad move on his part. He is so free wheeling and quick with his comments that an error like this is inevitable. I bet he would love to take that one back. Combining religion and politics is usually the kiss of death. People just don't want to hear that. Most people want religion to stay in the church and politicians to run the government and never the twain shall meet.
