ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Despite the growing threat from Islamic extremists, President Pervez Musharraf said U.S. troops are not welcome to join the fight against al-Qaida on Pakistani soil.
Musharraf warned in an interview published Friday that Pakistan would resist any unilateral military action by the United States against militants sheltering in its lawless, tribal regions close to the Afghan border.
maybe we can hope that McCain gets elected... just a day or two after NH primary he made the statement that he'd follow bin laden into the gates of hell until he caught him... ironic that huckabee and thompson used those exact same words last night in the SC republican debate when talkin about Iran (while McCain took a much more cautious approach to it)...

I agree. Also, it might look bad to the other Arab countries if infidels come to their aid.
It's more about the Pakistanis. There's a greater chance of civil war between ethno-political factions than anincrease inforeign al Qaeda terrorists. The Arabs don't bother with Pakistan as much as some might think.

RE: Pakistan president tells US to stay out
Simple answer! If they are truly our ally and then won't allow us access to fight the bad guys, just cut off their aid. Tell them.... when you are ready to allow us in then the money will return. Looks like relations with Pakistan is only a one way street. They don't mind cashing the checks but don't want us or our bases there. Bunch of dirty smelly grease balls anyways. F*** em and their stinking oil too.

There's a lot of places to stop sending US taxpayer money to and Pakistan would be a good start.

Interesting thread with a lot of interesting side questions inherently attached.
Do we have the right to go anywhere at anytime in the name of fighting terrorism? After all, Bush stated rather flatly that you're either with us or against us. Could it be that simple? Or put another way, why shouldn't it be that simple, if terrorism truly affects every breathing person in one way or another. If we are so darn comfortable in our position as the planet's savior and police department, does that not come with certain rights and privileges? Why shouldn't it, as CI infers?
CI, mentioned the oil supplies. Do we have to tread lightly because of the increased demands for oil in the last five to ten years? Oil suppliers are supposedly currently at or very near peak production levels. If that is true or may be very close to true, then the supplies cannot continue to be increased; production is close to max but demand is increasing rapidly as other countries begin developing.
I heard a speaker on the radio last night addressing this facet of the oil situation...he stated clearly that if oil production cannot be increased, the only way one country can get more oil is if another country gets less. That makes perfect sense, if you think about it... and in my mind at least, that is a perfect formula for increased tension and global conflicts and war. He also stated that within ten years, oil at $100 per barrel may be only a memory as a real bargain.
Things are changing fast. The world wide web has brought information and technology to the most remote corners of the planet and it is spurring exponential development. Additionally population growth continues globally and unabated. Demand for all goods and services will increase and production will eventually have long ago reached its highest plateaus. Another forumla for war, tension, and conflict.
Add terrorism to the mix and scumbags hiding in unstable nations with nuclear capacities.
It ain't pretty. We're moving toward all this as a nation out of favor with certain large numbers of people. We're also moving forward with great debt and a badly devalued dollar. The near term for America is one of many questions. The longer term is brimming with even more.
We may need to consider how all this is going to play out before we cop simplistic stands about chasing terrorists across borders of other countries. We could in the name of national security, actually create more problems than we solve, at least in the long term.
