JERUSALEM"” Two rockets fired from Lebanon struck northern Israel before dawn Tuesday, the military said, causing no injuries but expanding the violence that has erupted on Israel's borders ahead of U.S. President George W. Bush's visit to the region.
The tensions on Israel's northern and southern fronts threatened to cast a pall over Bush's three-day visit to Israel and the West Bank, which begins Wednesday.

Yes I heard about that attempt at intimidation. Nut job Iranians attempting to send a message to Bushahead of hisvisit as well but these Iranian revolutionary types can get boats easy and do what they want anyway, act of their own accord....if they get too close and become a threat to the ship and crew then they should die....the Ship's commander exercised very good judgement in my view...Was there a follow up story on what the Iranian government had to say about the incident ?...

The Iranians made light of the incident and characterized it as the usual kinds of misunderstandings that take place out there. I guess that was our story when we shot down that Iranian commercial jet liner a few years back. "Oops! These things happen out here. They'll get over it." My own opinion on this would be that after the initial incident the government of Iran is on notice and the next boats that manace me get tore up with one of those anti-missile gatling guns. It won't take long to dispatch those boats with one of those devices, I guarantee. On the other hand, it may be that the Iranian government welcomes our sinking a few of their cheap speed boats for propaganda purposes within Iran. I don't pretend to have enough knowledge to make the call on this.
RE: Rockets Fired From Lebanon Strike Northern Israel
Mohammed Ali Hosseini, an Iranian foreign ministry spokesman, earlier played down the incident, suggesting the Iranian boats had not recognised the US vessels.
According to US defence officials, five speedboats from the naval forces of Iran's Revolutionary Guards harassed three US warships on Sunday, as they sailed in the internationally recognised strait, three miles from Iranian waters.
RE: Rockets Fired From Lebanon Strike Northern Israel
Tehran is simply doing its best to kept tensions enflamed. They really look like a bunch of mischievous middle schoolers play with firecrackers or something. Khamenei made an indirect statement about the possibility of future diplomatic contact with the U.S. last week, and this weekthe Iranian militaryharrassed our ships as they regularly do.
You'd have to be blitzed to be a sailor from the region who can't recognize U.S. warships. We were in radio contact with the Iranians the whole time, and received threats of attack from them in reply. By charging our vessels, they 1) created an opportunity to gauge our reaction, and 2) stirred the pot in order to feedTehran's PR machine.
I've enjoyed opportunities to become familiar with Iranians and Iranian culture over the years. While my general opinion of the country and its peopleis high, I have come to understand that some people, when they oppose you strongly, will lie a guilty schoolboy caught in the act, and then go back to causing trouble when you turn away.Much of the middle and intellectual classes have fled the country for the U.S. and Europe since 1979. It's obvious, though, that thechildren are in charge back home.
RE: Rockets Fired From Lebanon Strike Northern Israel
IMHO, the Navy shoulda just blew up all the boats, and killed all the Iranian sailors, dead men don't talk! Then contacted the Iranian gov., "Hey, we just found some of your people out here dead and floating! You gonna leave them here for shark bait or are ya gonna come and get them!"
