The Democrats in Congress are naturally thirsting for political blood, but I have to wonder what, if anything, this investigation will reveal. The Executive Branch will have to accept some culpability to placate those nuts, hence the investigation, but I get the feeling that at most, some mid-level CIA officer will take the fall, if anyone does. Other than that, I doubt it will be anything but business as usual in the CIA for at least another year.

Bingo!!!! It iselection year feel good stuff. One does have to wonder what kind of idiot authorized the making of the tapes to begin with. If the guy had any sense at all; he had to know that it would come back to haunt the entire agency. If, God forbid,Hillary or Obamais electedPOTUS this year, this could have long lasting impact on CIA operations.
I don't blame them for erasing the tapes. There are plenty of folks that would love to see stuff like that leaked. And unlike the Valerie Plam case, these were field agents whose identities needed to be kept secret.

I dont know what orders were issued, but irregardless, Irespect theperson who decidedto destroy films that could compromise the identities of actual field agents. I'm not saying that they should be let off the hook if they are guilty of breaking the rules, but I can respect their willingness to do so and accept the consequences.

The idiot who authorized the making of the tapes probably had the objective of obtaining valuable intelligence from the person under interrogation. It seems no surprise to me that you might want to tape such interrogations so others in other venues -- Langley, Islamabad, Afghanistan -- may be able to hear and see the response of the prisoner to the questions, that you may wish to go back over the video, perhaps in the context of having viewed a later interrogation video with a different prisoner -- to corroborate, to combine information, to reconsider what previously was viewed as a negligible and insignificant detail.
