RE: Some Doctors Embracing Medical Myths
American doctors....Haaaaa. Ever look around an ER room or stroll through the corridors of a hospital. These "doctors" certainly weren't born ortrained here in the states. No northern twang orsouthern drawl with these saw bones. They all look and talk like they just got off the boat from India, Pakistan or some other Middle East sand lot. The ones who can"™t get jobs all work in a 7/11 selling slurpees.

Too busy with fishing to spend much time here.
I go to an Indian doctor by choice, a Muslim woman, no less. She is excellent. Indian schools are not as high-quality as American ones, but Indian students are often superior to their American counterparts in actual learning. Mine has two successful practices with parking lots full of Mercedes and BMWs. Something tells me she's not a quack.

Your right C.I. ....I went for a check up and the doctor had a hard time seeing where he wanted to poke because his turban kept slipping down over his eyes [:@]

As an American doctor (went to medical school in Philadelphia) the only one of these myths that I actually believed was the one about mobile phones presenting a hazard in the hospital. It is true that I have never seen or even heard of a problem caused by one, but there are so many signs around the hospitals admonishing people not to usecell phonesI thought there had to be something to that myth.
The myth about using only 10% of our brains is obviously untrue. Metabolically, the brain is a very expensive organ consuming over 20% of the calories we burn each day. Natural selection would never have allowed the evolution of an organ that uses so much energy but is only used to 10% of its capacity.
My deceased father resented many foreign doctors. I'm not sure why, maybe just prejudice and chauvanism. He recalled with relish an encounter he had with an Indian cardiologist. The conversation went as follows:
Dad: Doctor X, why do so many of you Indian doctors come to the United States?
Doctor X: You need medical care.
Dad: Do you mean to tell me that people in India don't need medical care? You are here to make the almighty buck!
Doctor X: You are a bigot!
Of course, probably both dad and Doctor X were correct. My dad also called the Indian doctors "rupee rollers." He was a farmer who grew up in Illinois during the Great Depression and didn't kow-tow to anyone. He sometimes took pleasure in stirring up controversy, and you couldn't always figure out if he fully believed what he said or if he was just saying it to provoke reaction.
I have a cardiologist who I guess to be Iranian, Pakistani, or something like that. I think he was quite skilled in his analysis of my condition and took care to carefully describe and tell me what was going on. I interacted with a gastroenterologist -- I think that is the right term -- when I had my colonscopy done when I was 50. He was an Indian I think. He had a good sense of humor which I enjoyed, and he again seemed to be quite skilled and took pains to explain and convey to me the meaning of my analysis. So I've got no complaints with the skills of these guys. At the same time . . . I'm guessing they are here because there is more money to be made here in the US. Isn't that why most people migrate here? Why did the Irish migrate here from Ireland? Why did the Italians migrate here from Italy? Why did the Martians migrate to California from Mars? Well, maybe the Martians just wanted to live with other "out of this world" people in California, but many folks migrate here to make money.
That gratuitous poke at California was just for fun. I like California -- beautiful place -- I just wouldn't want to pay a mortgage there or abide by the restrictive gun laws there.
Crackers, people that when he was working on them would act like he was their friend, and then call him a spic or make fun of his accent when he would leave the room.
Cracker= white trash, scum. People that think they are better then others because of their white heritage, even though they are bottom feeders.
