Aren't we told (bythe progressive/liberal crowd)that diversity should be embraced. It is even suggested that our differences will make us stronger. Read what two national languages has done in Belgium. Understand that it goes further than that. The have political parties, separated not by ideology, like us, but by national identity ... the French and Flemmish parties.
How can our country be strong when things have to be labeled in Spanish and English? How can there be more Mexican flags in certain areas than American flags, and yet we remain united? Our country won't fall apart tomorrow over the Mexican immigration issue, but problems are arising, and it won't be getting better. That's for sure.
Diversity is fine. We see it everywhere everyday. Unity, on the other hand, is a pipe dream. The Europeans realized this long before the U.S. came into the picture.
This whole Miss Belgium flap is just the latest incident between the Flemish- and French-speaking Belgians. Brussels, the French-speaking capital, dominates the country. Yet the Flemish region has a better economy, a more educated public, and fewer major social issues. Over the past year, many Flemings have openly advocated seceding their local and provincal governments from Belgium in order to founda independent Flemish country.
Too bad ya couldn't have come hang out with me in Montreal last year. I was in one bar with some Quebecoise and one of them complimented me on being a "good American" because i could speak French.

0-6 is right, this goes back a ways and really tears atBelgium as acountry. I am all for diversity, but I do think we need to be able to communicate with each other, if only to tell each other about our diverse views![8D]
