Default Gangland

Anyone watch this show on the history channel the other night? Its about gangs in LA and how theyve changed over time into the gangbanging scum they are today. This episode had an interesting angle though, the Mexican gangs have organized, gotten much larger, and are now replacing black gangs in the city. The interesting part was theyre not happy just to control the drug trade and the nieghborhoods, they seem to be in the middle of a race war with the blacks, not just gang members, theyre harrassing innocent civilians that are black, shooting them, beating them up, terrorizing them etc... in an effort to drive them completely out of the nieghborhoods they control which is much of the city.

My question is this, if the Mexicans have in fact started a race war andhave for years now been driving blacks from the city and murdering innocent peopleover race where is the media?A white person saysthe N word and its national news for weeks, thier careers over and the black leaders are screamingabout the injustice.Meantime theres a race war going on in one of our largest cities between two minority groups where ones intent on driving the other from the city at any cost and theres not a peep from the black leaders or the media. How is using a racial slur more news worthy then thecold blooded murder of dozens of innocent blacks not even affiliated with gangs over nothing but the color of thier skin.WTF is wrong with this countrys mentality?Instead of demanding a crackdown on the mexican gangs overtaking our streets by force, many of whom arent even in the county legally, were more worried about what Kramer or Imus said in public. Its kinda disturbing. When the subject does come up its not PC enough to blame the gang members themselves, it turns into a freaking gun debate.Have I missed something or if there a distinct lack of common sense in this country.[&o]

Good post Petasux. I don't think its a lack of common sense, I think it is the development on an ideological justification from the left wing. The media is controlled by liberals, liberals who really are not intrested in espousing the truth if it interferes with their pursuit of power. The justification arrives via a sense of superior intellect possessed by the left. To the power liberal, America is largely made up of idiots and relegious zealots. To the liberal, these are the idiots that interfere with their precieved utopia, and the truth is irrevalant when the means justify the ends. To the folks on the right, utopia cannot exist here on earth, it exist in the heavens. So, the battle lines are drawn, and the cultural war in America persist, and the left is willing to win at all cost. They have a tatical advantage in that they are willing to lie, cheat, steal, violate the constitution etc to achieve victory in the cultural war, where as the right can gain admission into utopia only by their actions here on earth. A little channel surfing can illustrate the absolute sewer that hollywood has become. Take a look at MTV sometime, that is thegarbage that is geared toward our teens and pre-teens. American culture is under constant assualt via the media/hollywood types. One can scarely turn on anything w/o the presents of a couple of ***** guys to round out the show. I expect nothing from the media anymore, no honesty, no integrity absolutely nothing. CNNs'republican debate was the last straw, these people will stop at nothing to gain power and force their ideology down the throats ofAmerica. So I guess what i am saying ina round about way is not to expect any honest discussion and fair reporting on any issue, because we are to farremoved from that. [:@]

I guess it is OK if they want to fight and kill each other as long as it doesn't affect us.

I think the show, "Gangland," glorifies animals and encourages membership.

After all, what do WE have to worry about. I mean its not like OUR kids are participating in this type of behavior. THEY'RE the ones hooked on crack cocaine, carrying illegal semi automatic weapons, smoking marijuana, listening to RAP music, calling women out of their names, doing driveby shootings on EACHOTHER. It's not OUR promblem is it?

I mean seriously, OUR kids don't listen to THEIR rap music and smoke marijuana(or worse)in an attempt to immulate those RAPPERS and GANGSTERS. OUR kids wear their pants on their waists, not around their ankles like THOSE BLACKS AND LATINOS huh? And they always just kill EACHOTHER, it never affects US so why should WEEEE CARE? Believe it or not this type of thing affects everybody, don't think it does, just wait, your day could be coming. Not a threat by any means so don't take it like that but believe me, this affects us all, black, white, red, yellow. So, what's the solution? Better parenting? More role models in the black/minority community? How about more religion. Maybe all three. I know, let's blame it all on the WHITE MAN. Personally I think people should take more responsibility for themselves and their loved ones (i.e. children). At the same time though, I don't think we, as a society can wait until this thing does, in fact come knocking on our doors. By then, it may be too late.

OlJohnnyBoy, I think you may have missed the sarcasm Champlain Islander intended with his post.

Thanks

The price we must pay so that the Democratic party can have more voters and the fat cat Republicans can have cheap labor.

Don't take this personally, please, because it is a global observation...

Think about the above. We are intrigued by the vicious lawlessness of a "gang." Our intrigue elevates it somehow and in more ways than one. Instead of being outcast and shunned, they are interviewed and analyzed, filmed and in a twisted way, glorified and emulated by others.

The people who are drawn to the lawlessness have common threads. They are usually in what the perceive as a hopeless situation. They form a subculture because they feel outcast.

Next we turn the cameras on them and we write about them. They feel infamous and feared and by default, we've fed them exactly what they want and need to perpetuate their pathological behavior.

Others of their bent notice. They see a type of attention that they are lacking, a type of power they think they can not otherwise hold and they are compelled to become part of something to get money, power, protection, and a sick sort of fame, especially within the community in which they feel trapped.
