For monthes we have been listening to Israel tell us how Iran was about to get a bomb and how we need to invade Israel now and our own intel agencies have been backing it up. Now we are being told they are years off (Collen Powell had said this many times) so was Israel trying to get us to invade Iran and do their dirty work again or was this all just a big oops?

well, i can't blame Israel for tryin to do that, Hezbollah is directly funded by the Iranian govt... that is state sponsored terrorism any way you cut it... imho, iran SHOULD be invaded, but, i think we have to wait for another country to lead the charge and at the moment, Sarkosy looks like he's a bit of a hawk and might be our ally on that one...

Any invasion of Iran would be a total blunder especially with the few troops that the US has. Bush and the other politicians need to shut up about Iran and let Israel handle it when the time comes.
not really falcon... iran is so weak politically that it would only take a little shove for their govt to fall and allow that country to revolt... it is ripe for it and their govt knows it... why do you think they gave up the british sailors so quickly? the internal working of the govt are in direct opposition... as i said, iran needs to be invaded, but not by us... we can support in a light role militarily, in particular regards to naval support since our boats are already there and can easily be retasked without detriment to any efforts in iraq or afghanistan... but, before an iranian invasion by someone else gets any support from us we need to focus on pakistan, THAT is the real problem right now... we just aren't hearing about it from the natl media yet... iran tends to over shadow it for some reason or another, but pakistan is province by province coming into taliban control and they are a nuke power... that is trouble we (the world) don't need...

The current dictator if Iran is not well liked. Iranians, however, will fight like banshees in order to protect their country from invaders: Saddam found that out when he invaded Iran.Right now our military is stretched so thinthat we do not have enough troops to invade Catalina Island.

Yep, falcon is correct. We can not handle an invasion or military operation against Iran when we are busy in Iraq and Afghanistan. I would not suggest it even if we were not, as we would get a tougher fight from Iran than we did from Iraq.
fwiw - less than 10% of our military is committed to iraq... we're not stretched as thin as some would be led to believe... any operations in iran i would not advocate what we did in iraq, i would only advocate covert/para-military ops in order to allow the people to topple the regime, let them have at it at that point and just contain collateral damage outside its borders... no need for a full scale invasion by US troops, only as a containment element in the gulf and logistical support to other coalition troops that seem to be slowly building consensus against iran... i also wouldn't advocate being a major player, but for us to be a non-issue would also be a mistake as well...
