I just read an overview of the energy bill. I suppose it's possible the WJS left it out but I saw nothing on allowing more of our oil to be to searched for, drilled for and brought on to our market. The goal I saw was upping fuel economy to 35 MPG costing consumers $5K more per car.

RE: Where's the exploration for new oil?
No new refineries in the last 25 years and even longer with new nukes. We put ourselves in an energy box that relies too much on the Middle East. Can you say Big Oil lobby? Time to develop more nukes and put the wind farms in so we can break that umbilical with the Middle East and Venezuela.

Wind farms are a big thing here in Texas. They are going up everywhere. I wonder if Kennedy and old Gore will allow the wind farms in their back yard. Oh yea, Kennedy voted agianst having them around his house, it was an eye sore.

After my current financial goal is reached, my next one will be to purchase solar panels for my house. The goal is 100% electric (and switch the water heater over to an electric tankless system). A nat gas bill for heat and laundry will still be there, but no more electric!!

Same thing for the NIMBY's on the East and West Coasts. It's OK to drill for oil off the Texas and Louisiana coasts, but NOT THEIRS...
My car already gets 35 mpg and i paid less for it thansome 4-wheelers.
Funny how 20-30 years ago people joked about solar and wind power as viable energy sources. Kind of makes it hard to take criticisms of other alternative sources like ethanol seriously.

I'm not a big fan of wind farms, but I definitly think that we should pursue "individual" (for lack of a better word) solar power. If we were able to decentralize some of our electricity means it would not only mean less high power transmission lines going all over the place, but also an increase in the net power that we can use since you lose actual power when you have to transport electricity over far distances. I think that's the big problem with our energy plans, it's like the government doesn't want to look at increasing efficency where you can help by getting smaller gains in different areas that adds up. Our government just wants to try and promote the next big thing. For our transportation energy we should seriously look at coal to gas, I mean sure in the future we'd be better off if we find something other than fossil fuels to run our vehicles, but in reality they aren't going anywhere for a while so we should try to help ourselves now.
As for the people up in New England...this is nothing new, it's just like how WV puts up new power plants to pump electricity up there to them, and then they want to sue us for the pollution that comes from them. If it were up to me I'd say fine, then stop providing them w/ electricy and let them build the plants in their own backyard.
