Teens Drove Around Drinking Beer, Shooting At Deer
Quote:
STANLEY -- Almost a dozen teens from the Stanley area drove around drinking beer and shooting at deer, killing one of them, before one of the youths put the animal's heart and tongue in a girl's high school locker.
The discovery was made October 18th in a locker at Stanley-Boyd High School. It led two state conservation wardens to investigate, and they learned the antlerless deer had been killed the night before in the incident involving 11 people.
According to the criminal complaint, the wardens learned the teens ranged in age from 14 to 18 and shot at as many as 16 deer in Chippewa and Clark counties.
One teen shot a buck, but the animal limped into the woods and couldn't be found.
Another teen then shot the doe, which was taken to his house and field dressed.
One of the teens then took the heart and tongue to the locker of a girl not involved in the incident.
Four of the youths were charged as adults with felony offenses, while others have been referred to juvenile authorities.
Is everybody in WI nuts?

If only life could be that much fun...
Sounds like good ol'country mischief, but society has little patience for that kind of behavior anymore. And wounding perhaps a dozen or more deer? Very bad taste. They'll pay for it, and their records will probably haunt them for some time.

99 times out 100, charging a teen with a felony is a joke. They'll pick up some trash, go to a "diversion" program, and probably learn nothing from it all.

You have got to be kidding. At NO TIME do alcohol and guns mix, NO TIME. When you post comments like this, basically condoning the action, you hurt the perception of gun owners and hunters alike.

Probably the biggest issue is whichever teens were "18" as they obviously could be charged as adults. If they are an adult and charged with a felony, they are likely in some serious trouble.

That is sickening. On one hand I'm sickened just imagining the danger of 11 people (teens or not) drinking alcohol and driving around with ammo and firearms. It chills me b/c anyone who would consider that kind of behavior doesn't likely have the skills and respect to handle a fiream correctly EVEN IF SOBER....
Secondly, it sickens me to see such a sizable group of youth caught up in criminal activity without someone or a few of them exerting positive peer pressure to discourage it..... This isn't just teenage hooliganism. They weren't shooting mailboxes with pellet guns now were they?
I'd sure like to see some REAL punishment handed out. Perhaps a trip to the morgue to view firearms accidents gone bad. Maybe loss of driver's license, loss of hunting priveleges, curfew made very early ....for 6 months....
I know it will probably be much less and closer to a trash patrol. Pisses me off.

No, I'm not kidding, nor amI not condoning anything. I wrote "If only life could be", not "Life should be".
These kids are clearly criminal idiots. They should have the book thrown at them. However, drinking can be enjoyable, and guns are always enjoyable. It would indeed be a perfect world if we didn't have to worry about the responsibilities of either. But that's my point--we always must.
