Indian opposition relents on nuke deal
***
I know that in addition to rantingIndian communists, many others,Americans included, have opposed this program. But I think even the commies now realize that as long as an expansionist China and a weakly governed Pakistan are armed with the bomb, India must be too. Asa relatively rare central Asian democracy, it really has little choice. There is some potential for civil war in Pakistan, and I don't see thatgoing away anytime soon. Neither does New Delhi.
Also, this benefits the U.S. by effectively sealing an exclusive contract for nuclear materials and technological and industrial investment. That'll send a lot of money back home to the national economy. Considering the development potential for India, we stand to benefit tremendouslyfrom a closer relationship with the country.
