Maybe we are looking the wrong direction about the rising cost of health care. According to this article,a bigproblemmay be the inaccuracy in the billing. I bet the doctor who accepts no health insurance would not get paid very often if 80%his bills were inaccurate.

my wife does insurance billing at our peds office... i can tell ya now, she does side work for people straightening out the medical bills, and even though she charges them for the service, it saves them thousands in missed charges... from my experience, this is DEAD ON!!!!

We once investigated doing medical billing. Had a freind of a freind who did that and both he and his wife quit and went into it full time. I didn't get very far with the software companies. I came to the conclusion there was a lot of shady dealing going on in that biz. However, it wouldn't surprise me however with all of the coding that takes place.
Davis, you are correct about the doctors who do an all cash business. When was the last time you just paid your dinner check without looking at it for being correct?

unfortunately, most people DONT look at bills they get in the mail... they pull the stub and pay it... no scrutiny whatsoever... in a way its their own fault... kinda...

Cut out a lot of the red tape and middle man and you will reduce s butt load of costs. My wife had a surgery two summers ago, i was amazed at all the administration costs.

I checked all of my bills when I had my babies, if they put something on there and I didn't know what it was I called them and asked. And my bills were ridicously high. My last was more like 60,000 since I was charged for 3 hospitals that I had been to an ambulance ride and a helicopter ride. I also needed a blood transfusion and was in ICU for two days after. My children were in the hospital for 2 months, 1 month, and 3 months. This is why most people aren't reading their doctor's bills. My regular doctors bills are always checked when I get them, I figure if I check my bill maybe it will help the ins. co. and my premium will not sky rocket if I switch companies.

Part of the reason we need rofrm in the Healthcare sector, every time I get a bill it states that charges were to high for services rendered in your location. it doesn't matter what hospital you go to you get the same crap. Some may be from all the codes getting mixed up but most is not..

I might be reading this wrong, but they said with your last child you had been to 3 hospitals, had an ambulance ride, a helicopter ride, a blood transfusion, and was in the ICU for two days, and was only charged $60,000?
Did you really have to go though all that, or is that what they put on your bill?
