There's a lot to it. If it takes Rudy down, good. Whatever. But I have a problem with this quote:
Quote:
"A beat cop accepting a free cup of coffee ... is properly viewed by the public as wrong. ... If a free cup of coffee is wrong, Kerik's long list of alleged crimes is repugnant," said David Cardona, the agent in charge of the New York FBI office.
I don't see giving a cop a cup of coffee, a donut, or an apple. As long as they don't come to expect special treatment, or act entitled freebies, then there's nothing whrong with giving a public servent a token gesture of good will, is there?

Maybe I'm out in left field on this one.
I'd really like to know who was polled in reaching the conclusion that the general public believes a free cup of coffee is wrong...
I think most convenience stores give away coffee. Increases the number of drop ins by the officers. Increased presence = fewer robberies...
Who knows how Keric's case will go, but I doubt it will affect Guiliani all that much. Guilt by association doesn't cut it in the public's eyes as much as it used to. Every major political figure in America knows and works with one crook or another.
This ain't about a cup of coffee or 1,000 cups of coffee. Keric is charged, among other things, with having his apartment refurbished bya mob connected construction company. i believe the prosecutorhas the goods on Keric.
"The indictment unsealed Friday alleges Kerik created a company to hide taxable income, failed to report more than $500,000 in income including free rent from a real estate developer, and did not pay taxes on a nanny for his children."
"Kerik pleaded guilty last year to a misdemeanor charge in state court, admitting that the renovations constituted an illegal gift from the construction firm. The plea spared him jail time and preserved his career as a security consultant, but his troubles resurfaced when federal authorities convened their own grand jury to investigate allegations that he failed to report as income tens of thousands of dollars in services from his friends and supporters."

I don't really care about the Keric case, as I stated. If he's guilty, fine. Lock him up. Like I said, I find that qutote very odd. In my book, a free cup of Joe is entirely different than thousands of $$$ in freebies or kick backs.
Only unimaginative people honestly think that a cop (or anybody else) is going to commit some crime or overlook a crime for a free cup of coffee. The rest of us know better.
