RE: Us supports Turkeys bombing of Kirdish Irac
This is a mess. I don't blame the Turkish Army for wanting to crush thePKK on its own turf, but it would be terrible for our interests in Iraq. Even with the sharp drop in al Qaeda and other terrorist attacks, we're not in a position to go rush back to Kurdistan to put down a new war. For our sake, I hope Istanbul keeps its pants on and negotiates with us a while longer. We may be able to pacify Turkey by promising to increase border security. Maybe.
The Turks and the Kurds have been killing each other for a long time, so there's no stopping it. I used to work with an ethnic Greek (Orthodox Christian) Turk who spent his mandatory year in the army out onan eastern border outpost, watching for Kurds smugging people and weapons into Turkey. It's ugly. And as long as we're in the middle of it, we're surrounded by ugly too.
