Twenty three years ago, when I first started voting, I generally voted Republican because I thought the Dems had held onto power for too long and had become corrupt and divorced from reality. Now the Republicans' scandals are a couple orders of magnitude greater than the Dems' scandals ever were (Wright resigned as Speaker because of a $20,000 book deal...Republicans are implicated in corruption scandals that involve hundreds of millions, if not billions, of dollars) and they seem at least as divorced from reality as the Dems were back in the early 1980's (pollution isn't so bad. Torture? Nah, waterboarding is just like dunking the boss at the company picnic; we were just havin' fun!). And the Republican power grabs are even scarier than the Dems' have ever been (IMO) (what limits on executive power? What voter caging? No, not us!). I still vote Republican once in a while, and I'll probably vote for McCain if he gets the Republican nomination (not likely), but they've just become too corrosive and corrupted by power for me to support, generally. I think you're right, Duane (no pun intended

).
