Bambi - top 25 horror film
Amazing that the first movies parents took their tots to in the 30s and 40s were the early Disney features. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Dumbo all exploited childhood traumas. Parents disappear or die; stepmothers plot the murder of their charges; a boy skips school and turns into a donkey. Kids were so frightened by these films that they wet themselves in terror. Bambi, directed by David Hand, has a primal shock that still haunts oldsters who saw it 40, 50, 65 years ago.
I love the Fox and the Hound. Still watch it sometimes
Thats back when cartoons were about real life stuff, not about Pokemon or whatever it is kids watch now. I miss Yosemeti Sam, Elmer Fud, and all the other gun slinging characters from Warner Brothers too.

My kids watched Bambi. My daughter told me that when she gets bigger she is gonna shoot Bambi's mom, my son the oldest not wanting to be bested said he was gonna shoot Bambi's dad. My mom watched Bambi and it did not scare or scar her and I don't know anyone on my moms side that hunts. So it is not because my kids are around a bunch of hunters.
My old German prof had us read some of the old fairy tales in the original language. Disney did a good cleaning up job on most of them. Those stories are downright bloody. Most of them were designed to scare kids and keep them in line.
