Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default No Health Insurance Accepted!!!!

Dr, Robert Barry in Greenville, Tn operates an Health Practice but doesn't accept insurance. It's a pay as you go and you know how much it will cost before you go. He said another Dr in Kingsport, Tn.called him doing the samething.

Boy, that idea has come up on this board before to counter those who feel we need National Healthcare. I can only hope it's a trend that will continue to catch on.

I'm still trying to figure out why some people, especially in politics, seem to think that having health insurance is a right. It's not a right, it's a privelege derived from being productive enough to have a decent job or enough drive to support yourself independantly. If you don't have it it's because you haven't done what's necessary to get it. Pay as you go at the doctor's office isn't a new concept, it used to be SOP until medical costs soared out of the reach of average people.

Getting a new heart definitly isn't a right unless your a prisoner in jail. However, hopefully one day we will get to the point that major surgery like that will also be pay as you go and advertised.

Good health care and how to pay for it is indeed an issue for many of us. Tragic as it may be, getting treated properly can be a matter of who has the insurance or money.

FYI peta, your going to die some day. We all will. Is it fair that Bill Gates get's better healthcare, yes, he's earned it. Healthcare isn't a right. I've floated a few ideas out there to better improve healthcare for everyone. One was a pay as you go system and the other was an America Corp system where in exchanged for free education one would have to work at a goverment free clinic for about 10 years at a reduced rate when compared to the private sector to pay back their education. This would reduce our over burden emergency rooms and reduce what we have to pay right now for the uninsured. Will it be top notch, no probably not but so what.

Yeah right, you think it's a privelege. What makes you think having a decent job will matter in the future? More and more employers are cutting back on coverage(starting with family coverage first), and it wouldn't surprise me if they completely stop offering health insurance to employees somewhere down the road because of the expense. If they employers can't pay for it because it costs too much, do you think people will be able to afford it on their own? Not likely. Healthcare is a HUGE problem in this country. Everyone keeps pushing the issue under the rug, but it won't be long before it totally gets out of control!

Steve, 20 years ago my employer provided us access to health insurance at no cost to us, but we knew that wouldn't last. Ten years ago they reluctantly began asking us to pay a small amount each month to defray the cost, and that ammount went up a small amount each year. Currently, I'm paying out over $50 per week, but I know others who pay more. Could I afford this coverage without my employer paying the majority? Probably, I've seen an offer on tv that was comparable in cost since it was gfroup rates. Could anyone afford health insurance? Probably not, but then health insurance is a privelege, not a right. [b]If it were a right it would be guaranteed by law and everybody would have it.[/b

That is a bunch of BS. The only way employer's will stop offering healthcare is if the Goverment forces everyone into a single payer system. You've been swallowing kool aid. I've been offered several jobs this year and everyone of them offers healthcare at the same rates and/or I have the opportunity to opt out and be paid more. It's factored into the pay just like your 13% SS bill and the 6% medicade.

It boils down to competition for the best workers. You have a choice to work for company "A" with benifit's or company "B" without. Some may choose "A" while others will choose "B".
