Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default HIV/AIDS

Kind of a political issue still so thought I would post here. Thoughts and questions as follows:

15 years ago HIV/AIDS was the next great plague and everyone including Magic Johnson were doomed to die quickly upon contracting. Last time I checked Magic was still kicking.
I really do not get a sense of a real great urgency to prevent transmission any longer in the U.S. and actually read in an MD office last week that unprotected sex and STDs are on the rise in MN.
Is it that people are living longer and medical science has helped to make it not quite so scarey to contract and live with?
I know that Africa, among other places continue to have very high rates of HIV/Aids and death, but even the knowledge of that does not seem to be so scarey an longer.

Thoughts, opinions?

The real BS about this was the mis-information in regard to this epidemic taking valuable resources away from more pressing needs. It was never the problem it was made out to be.

Sexual desire is the most powerfulforce known to man. All scares blow over eventually, at least once those pesky hormones kick back in. The fact that AIDS is largely treatable has only speeded this up.

There was/is huge amounts of money thrown at the problem because it mainly affected a certain highly visible and vocal minority from the start. Billions of money was spent on trying to fix a problem that a simple 50 cent condom could prevent while much more widespread problems in the human population were ignored. HIV should be treated as an intelligence test- if you got it from having sex with hundreds of anonymous people while not using a condom, no pills for you.

Prostate cancer kills far more people than AIDS, yet when's the last time you heard of a high profile fundraiser for curing Prostate cancer?

How about if you were a child born from a mother infected with HIV or got it from a needle?

Buying into this assumption contributes to the problem. Yes, sexual desire is certainly an important part of life. But it IS controllable.

The problem, not the assumption, isthe problem. Yes, I can control myself. Many people can. But the more I study human nature and behavior, the more convinced I am that most people act like animals. It takes a powerful mind to overcome the base desires of the body. If sex were as controllable as some would think, it wouldn't be out of control right now, or ever. To the contrary, sex is the centerpiece of our lives. If not in actions, then certainly in thoughts and motivations.
