Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Vatican Sex Sting

An after-hours office meeting between a young man and a top Roman Catholic official has prompted a fresh inquiry into gay priests. What the investigation could mean for the Holy See.

It's another story the Vatican could have done without. A high-ranking church official in Rome is caught by a hidden camera making what appear to be advances to another man. The scenes, in which the priest questions the Roman Catholic church's teaching on homosexuality, are then broadcast on Italian television.
That's the position the Vatican, still trying to deal with the long-running fallout from pedophile priests, finds itself in after the official, Monsignor Tommaso Stenico"”who has responsibility for matters relating to the clergy"”was filmed during an encounter with a youth he was reported to have met on a gay Internet chat room.
The priest invited the young man to his office after work hours and, during the course of their conversation on homosexuality, started complimenting the youth on his appearance. The young man told the priest he was "about to commit something with me that is a sin in the eyes of God." Stenico, 60, replied: "No, I don't consider it a sin." When the youth questioned how the priest could ignore the church's teaching that homosexual acts are sinful, the priest cut short the meeting and showed him the door"”but not before placing his hand on the back of his leg and saying, "You're so hot." The priest asked his guest not to talk with anyone on the way out.

I'm saying there are closeted homosexuals everywhere. It's a not a Church thing--it's a human thing.

I do not disagree with you at all. I think, IMO,it is a double whammy for the catholic church and catholic clergy given the cellibacy (sp?) committment.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. All the years of turning a blind eye is coming back to haunt them.

Im a devot Christian, so this will sound odd, but ive never understood the celibacy thing. Is that not asking for persons of a non heterosexual orientation to apply? It also forces many to live in sin due to the natural human urges. One of Gods instructions was to go out and populate the world.

You are not too far off the thinking of my wife. My wife currently works in a sex offender treatment program in Lino Lakes Correctional facility in MN. Prior to working in the prison, she worked in an out patient/residential tx program for sex offenders. She had the opportunity to work with more than one catholic priest from different states that came to MN for treatment and of course treatment funded by the catholic church. [:@]
Her opinion on why the priests she worked with acted-out/offended? They were homosexual and went into the catholic clergy in order to try to escape or get away from being homosexual, as society was not the most accepting of anyone being homosexual prior to the last 15 years or so.

We will always be hearing of one vatican scandal or another. We always have and we always will. There are a lot of Roman Catholics in this area.I am Lutheran and even though I don't agree with most of the practices of the catholic church I do know that there are some decent priests out there.

The reason they have to take a cellibacy oath is because then they can give all of their time to the Lord. Paul said in the NT that it is bestnot tobe married but it is better to be married than to live in lust. In a way I can understand that but at the same time are there enough men who can be unmarried with out lusting to provide every catholic church with a priest? I don't know.
