BOULDER, Colo. "” About 50 Boulder High School students walked out of class Thursday to protest the daily reading of the Pledge of Allegiance and recited their own version, omitting "one nation, under God."
The students say the phrase violates the constitutional separation of church and state.
They also say the daily reading of the pledge over the school public address system at the start of the second class takes away from education time and is ignored or mocked by some students.
A state law passed in 2004 requires schools to offer the opportunity to recite the pledge each day but does not require students to participate.

So you think everyone should worship your god, believe what you believe? That kind of thinking is exactly why this country came into existence. Dont force your beliefs on others please.

And this is the least of our problems. Since the 70s, the liberals have diluted education on the grounds of personal rights and self-esteemat the expenseofeducation.

Which god is God in the pledge?

I hardly think that reciting "...one nation, under God,..." constitutes "worship" or "forcing beliefs on others." Good grief. Tell you what, since all your money says "In God We Trust",I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands. Iwouldn't want anyoneforcing any beliefs on you.
Why the heck doesn't this site have a "rolleyes" smiley?

To the leftists, do you really think it makes a difference? All that matters is that it's "a" god. Thus, we've been forcing atheists to "worship" for the last 50+ years. Poor little atheists. I bet their ears just start bleeding every time they hear the word.

You're apparently not aware that I'm an atheist, you are now.
As originally written the "Pledge of Allegience" didn't contain the phrase "one nation under God", it was added much later at the insistance of the religious right movement at that time, much the same way that the phrase "In God we trust" was added to our money duing the 1930s. As an atheist I don't approve of the inclusion of either, but my post was a reflection of my disgust at the students distinctly disrespectful attitude toward their country, not a deity. Their participation was voluntary according to the school policy, and as stated in the article which you apparently didn't read, they didn't have to recite the pledge if they didn't want to. To walk out the way they did and censor the Pledge in that fashion wasn't merely a snub of the school's policy, it was an open handed slap in the face of a country that has given everything that they have to be thankful for. It also is a direct reflection of the bankrupt values taught to them by a teaching system sadly infested by liberals who very obviously hate this nation and are poisoning them against their own country. The tip off was when they cited a Constitutional conflict, there is no such "separation" clause in our Constitution, so they were just parroting what they were taught. In point of fact, I wasn't annoyed so much by the students themselves as I was the scoundrels who taught them.

"One nation under God" was added by the Ike administration in the middle 1950s. Went to a one room school in WV for the first six grades, throughMay 1952. Under God was not in the pledge at that time. No, i do notthink that the spoiled brats should have walked out. Thiskind of crap started 40 years ago when a bunch ofunwashed, long haired dope heads started railing against the Viet Nam war and the US military. Many of those dope heads are now school teachers and senior college professors.

Right on. The liberals are ready to forgive violent crime because (check one) Leroy, Jose or Bubba "suffer from low self-esteem."
