More minorities live in cells than in dorms
I just read in our paper that three times more black people live in jail cells than in college dorms. And Hispanics is just slightly less. So I asked myself, why? It is easier for minorities to obtain scholarships. Believe me, I know. I write countless numbers of letters of recommendations each year. Colleges love to have qualified minorities. Not to mention the minority based scholarships that are not available to whites. NAACP or LULAC has never given a scholarship to a white kid.
Is this a situation of repression? Is this a situation of culture? Kinda makes me think of the hip hop culture and gang culture. Is it not a badge of honor to have been shot, stabbed, or have spent time in Jail. Also makes me think of the phrase I hear all the time, "that's my babies Momma, or that's my babies Daddy"." Or, I got a baby with her, and her, and her, and her, and her. "

Unintended consequences and God have one thing in common: Liberals don’t believe in either of them.
Larry Elder mentions that very thing in his column except he has a different set of numbers. This is an excerpt with the numbers:
According to the 2000 census, there were over 2.2 million blacks in college. By mid-year 2006, according to the Justice Department, 905,600 blacks were in state or federal prisons and local jails. Even if Jackson meant black men, his assertion is still debatable. The Justice Policy Institute found that at the time of the 2000 census, 603,000 black men were in college, while 791,000 were in jail. Yet only 179,000 of incarcerated blacks were between 18 and 24 years old, the customary "college age."
They were without a doubt opressed at one point not many years ago, but its no longer an excuse.I dont even think its cultural, to me anyway that would reflect on thier heritage and theres black all aound the world and even in the US who can live simple lives close to the poverty line without resorting to violent crime.I think mainly its a lifestyle choice. You hear about the ghetto a lot and how bad it is but nobodies forcing them stay there, let alone try to raise a family in that enviroment.I guarantee theres affordable housing andgovt programs they could look into outside the ghettos. You raise a child around drugs and crime and they cant help but become involved in it, usually pretty young before they really know better, and once in it they can get in way to deep to get back out.
You get ayoung girl with a baby, daddy goes to prison so the girl being broke stays in the ghetto with her folks and the child and the process starts all over again.Daddy gets out witha criminal record and no job prospects and goes right back to where heleft off before going to prison, the kids see this crap and its what they know so they follow in it.Its easy to blame the parents, or society but I think in reality its just a very screwed up circle they cant seem to break out of.
Not to defend the overall situation, but i think that there are still circumstances where a black first time offender is gonna go to jail before a blonde haired blue-eyed all american boy will. I still know plenty of whites whose philosophy is that even if a black person is innocent of a current crime they've got to be guilty of something. Sad but true in SOME cases. But, the majority of times i will go with Bill Cosby's perspective.

The reports I saw said there are more blacks in jail than in college dorms, but not three times more. However, it mentioned that there are more blacks enrolledin college than in jail. Lets be precise here.
Also, the reports from about a month ago said there is more drug dealing and usage in the non-minority areas but fewer arrests. For whatever reason.
"According to government figures, more than twice as many young black men are now attending college than are imprisoned.
A number of studies, including one by the Justice Policy Institute, which advocates alternatives to incarceration, have pointed out that over all, more black men are in prison than are enrolled in colleges and universities.
But among 18- to 24-year-olds, while black male prisoners outnumber black men living in college dorms, more young black men are enrolled in college (and live either on campus or elsewhere) than are incarcerated." NY Times, 9/27/07
It gets even worse. Went to college in 1984 at age 45. Was working on a paper with Cindy, a black lady. Dumb butt me made the comment that she" had few black friends." Cindy responded:Correction, i have no black friends, I'm playing whitey's game."
She was a 4.0studentandshelater very richin the fashionmerchandising industry and by playing the stock market.
