I thought some of you guys assured me the patriot act wouldnt be used against U.S. citizens. If you have nothing to hide theres no harm right? So why was this guy accused of killing 194 people, survielled and had his home and office searched without cause and without proper warrants? Why did a judge rule these acts unconstitutional, does she hate America? They did all this based on a fingerprint they never bothered to double check. This is shamefull, imagine going about your businuess and suddenly being in custody for a mass murder in another country.Imagine finding out later they had been watching you, listening to your conversations, and had searched through all your possesions before they ever took you into custody. All without warrants or regard for your constitutional rights. What a joke.
Yep, this is justright up there withthe Richard Jewell debacle that the FBI pulled off over the Olympic bombing in Atlanta. Maybe as bad as the case where a spy escaped from under the noses ofFBI surveillance.
Glad that the judge struck down this silliness.
"The Mayfield case has been an embarrassment for the federal government. Last year, the Justice Department's internal watchdog faulted the FBI for sloppy work in mistakenly linking Mayfield to the Madrid bombings. That report said federal prosecutors and FBI agents had made inaccurate and ambiguous statements to a federal judge to get arrest and criminal search warrants against Mayfield."
Just like in the 40's when all the dissenters made those movie reels against WWII. Wait, that didn't happen. The gov't restricted free speech. And that free speech never came back. Nope, there I go again, it was restored shortly after WWII.
A temporary suspension of some rights in a time of crisis has been tolerated in our country in the name of safety. How do we know the PA will be temporary? Well, the wheels arein motion to abolish it, aren't they. The judicial branch is functioning perfectly. The PA served its purpose, and it will be dismantled in the courts over the next few years.
Constitutional rights Canuck.I know it's a foreign concept but some of us still believe in our constitution.
I agree Charlie, but I was curious to know if there was actually probable cause, and with existing laws about probable cause already in place, how could it be over looked.
Sounds like to me the system worked for mayfield. With regards to the patriot act, we haven't heard the last of this one. This ruling very likely may be overturned.
