Over in Britain, a man can't get an operation on his ankle because he smokes. Here in the US were refusing free donuts to senior citizens because the goverment knows better.

Heard on the radio last week that a close friend of the Clinton's, who is Canadian, came (or is coming) to the U.S. for medical treatment. If socialized healthcare is all that great, why would that happen?
I can't remember who said this, but it speaks volumes. "If the government were put in charge of the Sahara desert, it would run out of sand."

RE: Can't wait for Gov healthcare
A guide I know in NewFoundland waited over a year for life saving open heart surgery. They put you on a list and when your number comes up you get free healthcare. If you die before your number comes up, the list moves another step. That doesn't appeal to me.

Well,FM, this is the kind of fine US government health care that disabled veterans get from the VA. If it is good enough for them then it ought to be fine for everyone else.

Would there be no wait times in the US if 47 million uninsured pple showed up for service. I think yes. If GM can no longer afford American health care for its employees, nor have been able to for the last 10 years years, I highly dought a moose hunting guide would be able to afford it.
I guarrantee no outfitter would supply free health care to all his seasonal employees in the US either. Feel free to prove me wronge.

They are not allowed decent medical care at most VA hospitals either. Three of my friends are dead because of VA medical mistakes. One is dead because the Lawton VA Clinic, on two separate occasions; over a period of two years, forgot to tell him thatthe chest X-raysthey tookshowed ahuge spot on his lung. He went through a lung operation, radiation treatment and chemo and died a horrible death. He did sue the VA and collected hundreds of thousands in an out of court settlement but he is still died.He never smoked.

People die every day due to medical mistakes. I believe the statistic I saw was at least twice as many as are killed by guns. The VA doesn't have an exclusive on death by medical mistake.
I'm guessing your initial post contained a note of sarcasm. "If it's good enough for the veterans, it's good enough for the rest of us." I too am just a little concerned about a government that can't properly run the VA system taking over the treatment of all of us.
"I believe the statistic I saw was at least twice as many as are killed by guns. The VA doesn't have an exclusive on death by medical mistake."
Most "experts" quote a figure of about 100,000 per yearkilled by doctor's mistakes. This is more than all the car wrecks and guns combined.
The thing about the VA is that they are more prone to get away with a medical mistake. The vast majority of VA doctors are foreign born with little medical experience. Just communicating with themcan bea chore. Most VApatients are old and many are sick. Many have no one to look after their interests.
My friend did not have a family doctor and he told me that he wanted one through Tri-Care.i sent him to my doctor who is very highly regarded. The doctor set him up for a full medical exam: When the spot on his lungwas discovered it was thesize of a silver dollar. My friendtold his newdoctor about the VA X-rays, which werelocated. Attached to each X-ray was a letter from the radiologist to immediately notify the patient: This was not done. He trusted the VA system and lost-his life.
The US does not need a universal medical system like the VA.
