Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Did George Washington recieve Presidential retirement pay??

One of the main things (as I have stated before) that is wrong with this country, imo, is the fact that we have sooooo many career elected politicians. I wish there was a president with the balls to shake up the system...specifically in regards to returning the posts of elected officials to that of citizen/statesmen.

No elected official should be allowed to serve more than 2 terms (especially consecutively). There should be NO retirement pay for any elected officialEVER (there's no "retirement pay" for my city councilman). There should never be lifetime privileges forour national legislature."Members only", only while you're a current member. No more former congressman with special access as current lobbyists.

Get in and do the job if you want and then get out and return to private life, period.

...just my political thought of the day and days

We need term limits so bad! We don't need people like Ted Kennedy serving in the senate since 62' or Ted "Bridge to Nowhere" Stevens in Alaska serving for over 30 years. Term limits or bust.

Quote:
IIRC presidential pension was started because Truman was flat broke and too proud to ask for a handout

Well we should never limit earning potential of an individual and elected officials should get paid while in office, still, we should not have to pay retirement for a job that should never be "long term". Cut the"term" first, immediately followed byall residual benefits.
