Default Giuliani on Right to Bear

Can anyone update me on what he is saying these days? I am curious, although at this point, I am not a supporter. I had an interesting conversation with a very dedicated democrat who is convinced that Hillary could not beat him, and right now, Giuliani leads the national I polls I see.

At some point in the near future, I will drop by the Des Moines campaign headquarters and pick up his talking points to see what, if anything, is going out on the 2nd amendment.

We had a decision from a Polk County judge recently allowing gay marriages. This will mobilize conservative activists, and my best estimate is that this will dampen Giuliani's outcome in the Iowa Caucuses. The Iowa GOP had a brief swing to the center a year ago, but with the new state senate leadership coming out of Western Iowa, I expect a very active conservative base. I suspect that Fred Thompson will pick up steam here.

Rudy Babywas one of the first of the big town mayors to sue gun makers for acts done by criminals with guns. No doubt he is now in his stealth gun control mode-just like Hillary. If theRudy Baby is nominated i will write in the name of the local idiot for president.

This is what he said on Hannity's show:

Quote:
HANNITY: Let me move on. And the issue of guns has come up a lot. When people talk about Mayor Giuliani, New York City had some of the toughest gun laws in the entire country. Do you support the right of people to carry handguns?
GIULIANI: I understand the Second Amendment. I support it. People have the right to bear arms. When I was mayor of New York, I took over at a very, very difficult time. We were averaging about 2,000 murders a year, 10,000...
HANNITY: You inherited those laws, the gun laws in New York?
GIULIANI: Yes, and I used them. I used them to help bring down homicide. We reduced homicide, I think, by 65-70 percent. And some of it was by taking guns out of the streets of New York City.
So if you're talking about a city like New York, a densely populated area like New York, I think it's appropriate. You might have different laws other places, and maybe a lot of this gets resolved based on different states, different communities making decisions. After all, we do have a federal system of government in which you have the ability to accomplish that.
HANNITY: So you would support the state's rights to choose on specific gun laws?
GIULIANI: Yes, I mean, a place like New York that is densely populated, or maybe a place that is experiencing a serious crime problem, like a few cities are now, kind of coming back, thank goodness not New York, but some other cities, maybe you have one solution there and in another place, more rural, more suburban, other issues, you have a different set of rules.
HANNITY: But generally speaking, do you think it's acceptable if citizens have the right to carry a handgun?
GIULIANI: It's not only -- I mean, it's part of the Constitution. People have the right to bear arms. Then the restrictions of it have to be reasonable and sensible. You can't just remove that right. You've got to regulate, consistent with the Second Amendment.
HANNITY: How do you feel about the Brady bill and assault ban?
GIULIANI: I was in favor of that as part of the crime bill. I was in favor of it because I thought that it was necessary both to get the crime bill passed and also necessary with the 2,000 murders or so that we were looking at, 1,800, 1,900, to 2,000 murders, that I could use that in a tactical way to reduce crime. And I did.

That clown keeps talking about how he reduced homicides and other crimes in NYC, and it drives me nuts. Pressure on narcotics traffic drives the homicide rate. The more pressure you put on narcotics traffic, the more fierce the competition between dealers, and it results in a higher homicide rate. If he reduced the homicide rate, that means he had to go soft on the narcotics trade in the city. Nothing you can do as mayor is going to stop non-drug related homicides. The other crimes were probably reduced by selective reporting, or administrative signal changes or downgrades so crimes don't show up as a UCR. You aren't any safer, but the numbers look better before an election.

Judging by that quote, the interview with Hannity, I'd say he just lost any conservative backing. He's too dodgy in his answers and seems like he's playing a lawyer trick. The whole "I'm not going to answer your question, but I will attempt to distract you with saying how great I am at being mayor"

I agree with you BigTiny about narcotics. Thats really what drives the murder rates. Get the drugs off the streets, and people won't be stabbing, shooting, strangling, ect. so on and so forth eachother. Even if you remove guns, people will still kill eachother. Just in more inventive ways.

Who is the NRA backing these days? Last I knew it was up in the air.

I will NOT vote for the liberal from New York.

He has done more to erode the 2nd than the democratic hopefuls combined. So far, most of them have just been all talk. The liberal from NYC has acted, and he has acted 100% against us.

Well, I don't know, but Guiliani is usually liberal. So I'm sure he's probably pro-gun-control more than I'd like my president to be.

Probably no help to you...but at least I feel better getting that off my chest. Haha.

I'll be old enough to vote in the next election for the very first time, so I'm paying a lot of attention. I hope I have someone to vote for. I know I could never vote for Giuliani.
