Default Kid suspended for drawing a gun

The glorious public education system in Colorado suspendeda kidbecause he had drawn a gun. It was 5 days but reduced to 3 days. I have to agree with their decision because he failed to draw the clip out of the gun there by showing it wasn't loaded and not a threat to the other students.

Too close geographically to Columbine I suspect. I saw that report on the news channel and it appears to me that the school administration over reacted. To draw a picture of a gun and have it result in a suspension seems a little over the top. What is next have a kid draw a stick picture of a person and suspend them for pornography because the figure didn"™t have clothes. [:@]

I saw the picture, and the gun the kid drewlooked like afictional ray gun. The scary thing is that these dimwits are educating our kids, and you know the kids are smart enough to see the stupidity.

Man times have changed...
From my daddrawing pictures of to be a cowboyskilling Indians......
And playing war games such as Ally soldeirs killing Germans and ***anies...
Makes me wonder what woulda happened to me..
In this day and age..
20yrs ago ,during my elementry school yrs,Geez, thats all I used to draw in art classes and free time
Guns more guns, planes dropping bombs on cities and tanks and mortors doing damage as well..
Death and distruction everywhere..
All I did was read hunting and gun magazines, the only novels and movies I watched revolved around hunting, war, and murders...
And I turned out just fine........
These people are way over reacting, I don't think there is one boy turned man, who didn't do this stuff and some time in their childhood and have fun doing so...
And not one of these people can say they have never t.v watched a show read a book or watched a movie with guns and violence in it, and say they didn't enjoy it as a kid or an adult..
drawing pictures is no different than wating it or reading about it,it is a form of communication and would definately fallunder the freeom of speech act..
This familly should sue and sue for millions.....

Way back when, maybe some of the older folks on this board can testify to this, they use to sell ammo in the school store for the riffle teams.

Depends on the school it seems. Some have idiots running them and teaching our kids and some seem to have a bit of common sense.

My son was allowed to bring a Winchester model 70 to school as a class project to show proper safety and cleaning procedures. I had to remove the firing pin but other than that it was a fully functional model 70.He was in 5th grade at the time and we were living inBroomfield which is just on the North Westside of Denver from Columbine.

Oh my gosh. That is just about the dumbest thing ive ever heard of. And that should be somewhat telling, since I have been in the education buisness for many years now.

Now there has been another suspension but this one was a series of pictures with a stick figure shooting a gun at another person. Press is jumping all over it.

This is really unbelieveably stupid. I don't know if being suspended is worth millions, but someone should lose their job for this.

It's almost as stupid as when my friend's daughter was suspended from public school here in Virginia for wearing t-shirt that said "Four years is more than enough!" (note: many kinds in the same school were wearing pro-Bush t-shirts wiht no problems, so it's not a matter of t-shirts or political t-shirts not being allowed).

This is really pitiful. I thought schools were supposed to be places of learning! [:@]
