Default ND Hunters Support This

The text of a proposed North Dakota ballot initiative to restrict hunting preserves:

___

Section 1. A new section to chapter 36-01 of the North Dakota Century Code is created and enacted as follows:

Fee killing of certain captive game animals prohibited - Penalty - Exception. A person is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor if the person obtains fees or other renumeration from another person for the killing or attempted killing of privately owned big game species or exotic mammals confined in or released from any man-made enclosure designed to prevent escape. This section does not apply to actions of a government employee or agent to control an animal population, to prevent or control diseases, or when government action is otherwise required or authorized by law.

Section 2. Effective date. If approved by the voters, this measure becomes effective on Nov. 1, 2010.

North Dakota hunters are supporting this bill. Why would a hunter want to outlaw any type of hunting as long as it is legall?

Please take time to read the on going debate by several of the hunters supporting this bill on nodakoutdoors.com Hot Topics> Fair Chase Hunting Measures!!!!!!!!

If this pass it could happen to you in your area. Anytime a form of hunting a type of firearm is outlawed it affects all of us. Take the time to check this out!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why would hunters support a law banning a form of hunting that is legal?
Well personally, if we are talking about hunt farms, because it isn't hunting. Many hunters feel this form of target pracxtice reflects badly on all hunters.

I am not saying I like it,I have never hunted behind a fence, what Iam sayings is if one type of hunting is outlaw the rest of hunting is in danger.
There are several hunters that are authors on this bill and are working to get it on the ballet.. The poeple who have no idea what a fenced hunt is or what huntind is will vote to outlaw and then given the chance tovote to outlaw hunting completly. It's like outlawing one type of gun opens the door to outlawing all.

I think thats a bit if a stretch, especially in rural North Dakota.
Myself I feel real hunting is much stronger without penned animals being killed for sport and less likely to be banned once it (hunt farms) are eliminated from the general definition of hunting.

I agree with a lot of what you have said, but why put a person out of bussiness who has followed the laws and that has a lot of investment in a shooting presreve.

By getting this on the ballot it gives the ati's and the peta people a chance to be heard, at the shooter or the hunter expense. If there is a conflict between shooters and hunters then comes the divide and conquer.

If hunt farms ever become the norm for hunting, I too would be an anti-hunter. Sorry but that is just the way I feel.

I respect your opinion, But I think a landowner has rights even if it is not popular with everyone. I am have never hunted behind a fence but have taken disabled vets to one to shoot some hogs, and I have taken members of a high school team to shoot pheasants.

if they ban the killing of a farm raised elk, why not ban the killing of a farm raised cow, pig or chicken ?

look, I hate canned hunts, but they should be 100% legal. What we as hunters need to do is disassociate ourselves from it though, because it isn't hunting, its simply the killing of an animal for horns, food and hide.

We're trying to do the same here in Indiana, so I understandably support them. Bottom line: It's their state and therefore their choice, not ours. Sunday hunting is illegal in some states, I don't understand it personally, but it's not my decision.
