I am not a financial guy so I don't have any real opinion onhow we got to this point orhow to "fix" this but it sure got my attention.

The Chinese government has begun a concerted campaign of economic threats against the United States, hinting that it may liquidate its vast holding of US treasuries if Washington imposes trade sanctions to force a yuan revaluation.
I'd call their bluff, I don't think getting in a trade war would be in their best interests. There are plenty of countries that we can go to for cheap goods, however there are not many countries that have the buying power of the U.S. that the Chinese government needs to sustain its growth. If they want a free market economy then they should play on the free market and let their currency float.
Why would walmart crash? If this goes through we would just see a 20% price spike on the good we buy. Be careful what you wish for.

and it would hurt us a whole lot more than it would hurt them. they sell, we buy, &we are addicted...they have the power, not us.
people whine and bellyache about illegals but we have much more to worry about from certain countries abroad. think china is content to live in the US's shadow forever? they want to be the next superpower.
It never ceases to amaze me that folks who whine about "socialism" in the US are the first ones to go down to Wal-Mart China Imports and buy some cheap junk that is made incommunist China. Folks, we are paying for our own destruction.

I agree, besides, the Chinese have a long history of bluffing when it comes to threats in general.

It would hurt us in the short term, but we are addicted to cheap goods, regardless of where they come from.Noone here cares whether they're from China, Mexico, or Vietnam. China is addicted to the United States. They cut off their supply, we buy from somewhere else. We cut off our supply of money and who are they going to sell 200 billion worth of stuff to?
