Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Honeybee Die-Off Threatens Food Supply

Honeybees don't just make honey; they pollinate more than 90 of the tastiest flowering crops we have. Among them: apples, nuts, avocados, soybeans, asparagus, broccoli, celery, squash and cucumbers. And lots of the really sweet and tart stuff, too, including citrus fruit, peaches, kiwi, cherries, blueberries, cranberries, strawberries, cantaloupe and other melons.

In fact, about one-third of the human diet comes from insect-pollinated plants, and the honeybee is responsible for 80 percent of that pollination, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Even cattle, which feed on alfalfa, depend on bees. So if the collapse worsens, we could end up being "stuck with grains and water," said Kevin Hackett, the national program leader for USDA's bee and pollination program.

"This is the biggest general threat to our food supply," Hackett said.http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2007May02/0,4670,HoneybeeDieOff,00.html

Interesting subject there american pride.

I wonder if the same "die off" is equally occurring in both regular "european bee colonies" and the less productive "africanized colonies"?

Hopefully the bees will "right themselves" before the need for a scientific remedy to their problem.

It's an interesting topic and something agriculture and the world will have to watch carefully. Any time we add pesticides into the world, there could be a cumulative effect and adverse reaction.

Me too! That is never a good combination. Their last fix to a bug problem here was to send in another bug that eats that one and these ones are even more of a pain than the first ones. It should have been left well enough alone. Oh and personally I have seen more honey bees in my yard this year than I have all together in the last 3 years. Sometimes you have to wonder where they are looking for their bees.

Iknow what you mean. Your statement reminds of a "Simpsons" episode where Bart has released these invasive lizards into springfield:

Principal Skinner: "So, to combat these lizards, we are going to introduce poisonous Needle Snakes"

Lisa: "But won't we then be plagued by the snakes"

Principal Skinner: "For a while, but then we are going to import a rare species of snake-eating gorilla"

Lisa: "But then we'll be overrun with gorillas"

Principal Skinner: "No, that's the beauty of it. When Winter comes, the gorillas simply freeze to death."
