Security officers alerted to possibility of airport attack after seizures
WASHINGTON - Airport security officers around the nation have been alerted by federal officials to look out for terrorists practicing to carry explosive components onto aircraft, based on four curious seizures at airports since last September.
The unclassified alert was distributed on July 20 by the Transportation Security Administration to federal air marshals, its own transportation security officers and other law enforcement agencies.
The seizures at airports in San Diego, Milwaukee, Houston and Baltimore included "œwires, switches, pipes or tubes, cell phone components and dense clay-like substances,"� including block cheese, the bulletin said. "œThe unusual nature and increase in number of these improvised items raise concern."�

LOL Looks like the terrorists' timing is the same as our election cycle . I am guessing we'll be getting color coded alerts from the DHS before long. Haven't had those since summer and early fall of 2004 .

You got to admit some unusual things to find on a person wishing to board a flight. I think that it is absolutely plausible and likely that some terrorists are doing some scouting and dry runs.

They are unusual and I do think terrorists are scouting and doing some dry runs but do you really think they are going to try and commandeer planes again? And then crash them into something? I think it is much more plausible that the scouting is in dense cities and the dry runs are what they can bring across our porous borders. But then again, we are constantly being told that we are fighting them there(iraq) so that we don't have to fight them here .

Given the frequency with which the TSA fails to detect training bombs in luggage,it is amazing that a bomb has not gotten through.

C'mon now, I am sure they are getting a thumbs up and a hearty "heckuva job" from someone .

You know last year, when going out of country on a hunting trip, I left a 270win cartridge in my hunting backpack and didn't know it was there. And sure enough, they found it. It was stuck in the seems, and they searched it 3 times and couldn't find it, and finally did, but the machine found it.

Don't expect anyone to report any unusual activity since the democrates don't feel you should be imune to law suits. If I see anything unusual at the airport for my flight, I'm just going to change flights.
