Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Global Warming behind Recent Flooding...

Recent floods fit into warming scenarios
Warmer air can hold more water, unleash more energy, expert notes
LONDON - As communities around the world battle severe floods in living memory, experts warn such events may become more frequent due to climate change and that lessons still need to be learned to limit losses.
Floods may result in lower death tolls than earthquakes, wars or tsunamis "” and therefore gain less international attention "” but they can cause similar devastation.
"It would be wrong to deny the possible impact of climate change on flooding because if we (waited for more) statistical proof it may be too late," said Wolfgang Grabs at the World Meteorological Organization, a United Nations agency.

What a joke. Now we have a 100 year flood blamed on Global warming.

Let me ask you this, How much rain fall is world wide everyday? Has it changed up or down?

Looks like you are the epitome of a stay the course kind of guy mouse. Politics, science or whatever you appear to remain stuck on old school thinking. Not knocking you, however, because it is important for some people to think that way as a counterbalance of new ideas.

Those previous predictions were by "journalists". The current doom and gloom crowd are "scientists".

Thank you ipscs, I knew I was missing something. It's as clear as the flood waters in Britain now.

The earth and its atmosphere is a vast ecosystem which has a balance. This balance supports life as we know it. Sometimes something external upsets this balance leading to a change in the air, weather or life on our planet. A good case to consider would be the event or events that ultimately led to the extinction of the dinosaurs. Some believe a meteorite hit earth and the resulting dust cloud changed the weather for several years killing much of the plant life and animals that inhabited the planet at that time. Some could say this event, if it occurred was actually not an event but rather a part of the usual cycle of objects which hit earth and could change weather patterns. Periodically we have volcanic eruptions which over the short term do affect weather through cloud cover. I realize that through the ages man has tried to blame fluctuations of weather on something external and now with the Gore movement they are trying to blame it on the carbon footprints of our society. I think some of this posturing is political to be sure and it bashes up against what scientists are saying on both sides of the issue. How can we have global warming if there are floods in some places and droughts in others? One thing many say is that global warming results in extreme weather patterns beyond what normally occur. I do believe that man has some impact on events within our environment. The fossil fuels we burn and the resulting CO2 do go into the air. Issues like a depleting ozone layer resulting in a higher incidence of skin type cancers are an unfortunate byproduct of our industrial growth or so some believe. I think it is important to not let it become political but keep it scientific for the good of all mankind. I think over time all the pollutants we pump into our environment will ultimately come back to bite us. Some of these things are taken care of through a natural process in nature by way of living plants converting our air into oxygen and the plants decomposing and returning to the earth in the form of fertilizer. Some pollutants are just mixed in and diluted into our atmosphere like a grain of sand on the beach. The amount is so small with regard to the vast atmosphere that the results are negligible. My belief is we need to pay attention to what the scientists are saying and do what we can to eliminate some of the pollution through some changes worldwide. That is when it gets political though and the Kyoto Protocol is a good example of that in action. We as sportsmen should be especially be concerned with the environment since it supports our hobbies and needs to be healthy for us to enjoy all that it offers.
