Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Denver and global warming

I read an article today that Denver is considering adopting a number of measures to combat global warming. Among these is (1) mandating higher insurance premiums for those who drive more miles; (2) higher energy costs for those who consume "excessive" amounts of energy, for example electricity; (3) encourage hybrids and carpooling; and (4) discourage "excessive" trash throwaway. What do you think of this?

First, while global warming may be happening, it is not proven to me that human beings are causing the global warming. Maybe I'm just a slow learner and I'm wrong, so hypothetically let's accept that generation of greenhouse gases by human consumption of fuels dominates the global warming. How does Denver taking these steps solve the issue of global warming? If Denver's actions -- and Chicago's, and Seattle's, and London's actions -- are not coordinated with the massive on-going construction of coal burning electricity generation plants in China and India how is the problem of global warming going to be solved?

This seems absolutely absurd to me. I'm thinking particularly about the higher insurance premiums and the differential energy rates. Since when did the City of Denver obtain the power to set actuarial rates and set utility rates? Who do the increased fees go to? Is this just a tax on evil energy consumers that will be gobbled up by tax-and-spend Denver politicians? A good reason to move out of Denver it would seem to me, to avoid heavy punishments forgenerating "excessive" CO2.

Without hyperventilating about this, it strikes me that a very key issue with any strategy to combat global warming is coordinating with developing nations.

Global warming may be a result of the fermentation of all the liberal BS that has been heaped around in the last couple of generations.

This is a prime example why I won't move back to colorado. my wife is a "native" of colorado . in the 80's that was a term used for people that were born there cause people were moving there from so many othre states.
I can see a city from colorado doing this.........I have begun to put it in the same category as kalifornia.

my wifes family still lives there but she doesnt even want to go to live. good to visit but not live.

one of colorados biggest issues is water ......they don't have enough for the population. my inlaws come to arkansas and are amazed that that i just water freely.........from my well that doesnt seem to go dry.
i take showers for as long as want or until i run out of hot water.

Actually they are thinking of moving here to escape the madness of the rockies now[:@]

doesnt surprise me though.....

If you're a little older, as I am, you'll recall that Colorado was a hippie mecca pretty much second only to California. The Rocky Mountains were an alternate choice to going to the Himalayas and sitting in meditation with the monks in the purity of the mountains.

Those hippies and their ultra left-wing descendants are making Colorado what it is becoming today, a liberal vision of Utopia.

WOW! I didn't know Colorado is almost as bad as it is here in California. We've been thinking about buying some property in Wyoming, Montana, or Colorado. I guess I'll have to take Colorado off the list. [:@]

Hey Jeepkid, is that your toy in the aviator? How i wish I learned how to fly one.

Don't worry about taking Colorado off your list. I would add Montana after the mother/daughter team I met flying to work one trip.

You keep your goals set and you'll achieve them. In reality when you get older, you can only look back and reflect on the decisions you've made. Some of them almost get choosen but you relize a choice had to be made.
